Made some progress today

I finally had a Saturday where I could do what I want. S0, I installed the various plugs in the block, put the cam in and installed the crankshaft. I've never done this before, so everything is a first for me. I think it all went well. We'll see what happens when I get around to firing it up.

One question while I can still do something about it - The book I am using says regarding the cam thrust plate, "Just make sure the cast-in slots are facing the front can bearing journal." The thrust plate has cast-in slots on both sides. Did they idiot proof the part, or is there something else I need to know?

It is a three-day weekend, so I hope to make more progress. I am taking pics, but I am using a film camera, so there will be a delay before they are posted.

Make sure you get it in the right way, the block has a hole in it that needs to be covered by the plate. It will go on ether way but will only work one way.

I think anyways.
