Nascar cheaters....
Hate to admit this, but I find NASCAR or any racing where it's just one big oval track mind numbingly boring. Until someone crashes in a ball of fire. I really like watching European road rallies on t.v. That's looks like fun.

Nascar cheaters....
before you get too deep into thinking that an ernie elliot engine made more hp than anyone else did, forget it. the car the bill ran to a fastest qualifying record of just under 214 at taladega motor speedway, and just over 212 at daytona, was actually a 15/16ths scale tbird. the melling team did the same thing that smokey yunick did in 1966. the reason they got away with it and yunick didnt is because smokey was known for stretching the rule book past the breaking point, and the elliots were not. that is the unwritten rule in racing, and yes i know as i was a crew cheif many years ago, is that if it isnt in the rule book then it must be legal(from the racers point of view). if you look at the same rule book from the tech inspectors point of view, then if it isnt in the rule book, it isnt legal. racers by nature do everything they can to gain an advantage, ANY advantage, without being disqualified. as far as stock bodies go, that is nascar trying to equalize the competition. my problem is that nascar allows such large spoilers that the drivers dont really drive the cars as much anymore. i say get rid of the restrictor plates, and get rid of the spoilers(give the racers a small one of say 2" in height like was used in the 60's and 70's), and go back to stock bodies, and let them race. make the drivers drive again.

Nascar cheaters....
The "SOUTHERN REDNECK" statement was not aimed at any one of you, or at anyone in particular.....Im just generalizing the scenario.
I never liked Dale Earnhardt, I never liked his driving style, and I never liked how NASCAR would look the other way when he did something to another driver.
But when someone other than Dale Earnhardt would pull the same stunt, NASCAR officials would be all over him and the fans would "boo" him...........even though Dale Earnhardt could do it all day long and he'd have everyones blessing!
Thats just to me.
As a sport, I like drag racing better.....its one where anyone can participate regardless of vehicle.
How many "average Joe's" can participate in a NASCAR event??
However, I'll say that the NHRA has its problems too, and they like to play politics with the rules and regulations and requirements, almost as much as NASCAR does.

Nascar cheaters....
If ya wanna see some really spectacular cheating attend the VARA Big Bore Bash at Willow Springs in November. In B Production theres a guy (Mike Davis, ACS Racing) running what looks like a '69 Mustang except the body was cut in half length ways & widened 8 inches, the flared the qwheel arches another 5 inches for a total of 18 inches wider than stock.
At that point he dropped the body onto a '02 Roush Trans Am chassis & went racing, to say he cleaned up would be a major understatement.. He just flat out hauled ass & was into Turn #8 when the guy in 2nd was still at the Balcony, he caught & passed his first car that the end of his 4th lap....
He got around the protests by sponsoring the race

Me, for one. Why slam what someone else may enjoy just because you don't? NASCAR is FAR from perfect. But it's still the best game in town if you like competitive bigtime racing.

This forum is infinitely more politically correct and tolerant than some others I've seen. EXCEPT of course when it come to actual Politics: then it's open-season on anyone who seems to be the slightest bit divergent with their opinions. Sometimes I even find it nauseatingly Politically-Correct and annoyingly touchy-feely or excessively 'supportive' of ANYTHING anybody else does with their cars, regardless of how screwy the idea might really seem. I value insightful criticism of my projects more than I value lap-dog support.
It strikes me as somewhat strange that Nascar and anything beyond drag racing is not more popular on this site. I'm not a number-wearing fan, but if I find it on TV any given day I can count on not moving from the TV until the race is over.

I dont think its even so much that. We'll gladly offer advice countering what someone might think is a good idea, but is totally unsafe. But on the style aspects of things, its their car.
If someone says "Hey, I think Im gonna paint my motor purple,"
I'll tell him to go right ahead! ITs his stuff, if he wants to look , its his choice

Nascar cheaters....
My favorite way to watch racing is on TV. Mainly, because I don't plan my day around it, travel miles to see it, pay big $$$'s to get in to watch it, and fight with all the idiots to get home from it.
That said, I can usually be found watching the Speed channel on those rare times when I'm in control of the remote. But, I change the channel when NASCAR is on...and those STUPID NASCAR talk shows on the Speed channel really chap my A$$.
IMHO, Rally racing is king. But, as far as real racing goes, I'll have to agree with the earlier comment on SCCA racing. I'm building Project Hard Way to race open track and auto-X. Any racing that you (readers of this forum) do as an active participant is way more interesting to me than anything on TV. Now, if one of you was on TV...that'd be over the top!
My $0.02.
