Re: Ouch!!!

It's crazy how long this thread has lived. This one is getting close to three years old now. It is amazing how much has changed since I made the first post. I've literally bounced from coast to coast. Interestingly enough, I'm basically doing the same thing on the east coast now. The company I'm working for did make me promise not to do any burnouts in their parking lot. Chances are good that I'll be able to restrain myself.

Anyway, I have made some progress on the Mach 1. I'm putting a 351 Cleveland in it. The block is at the machine shop right now. I rounded up a replacement column a while back, and I've been seriously eyeballing the mustang restoration catalogs recently. I'll probably pull the trigger and buy the patch panels and all that fun stuff here in a couple months after the engine is assembled. I'm sure once the engine is on the stand, I'll go insane without having something readily available to put it in.

I already have a "blow proof" bellhousing to install for this go around. Perhaps I'm not as dumb as I look. I'll let you judge for yourselves.....

Re: Ouch!!!

Look like trouble to me! LOL
Did you have your fingers crossed when you made that promise? Cause when you get that thing back together it might just be too much to resist!

Re: Ouch!!!

It's still not done. The 351C is together though. The mach 1 will be pretty much be just a nice weather street car. Engine ended up like this.

70 351C block w/ 2 bolt mains. .030 over w/ ARP head and main studs.
Closed chamber 4bbl heads. Ferrea valves
Crane Gold Rockers
Holley Strip Dominator intake
SRP flat tops
Stock rods with ARP bolts
41106LUN solid Lunati cam
I haven't bought a carb for it yet. I have an old Mallory dual point distributor, so I'll be giving that a try. I don't have any headers yet. I'm thinking about putting a five speed in it too. With any luck the mach 1 will be ready for the street this spring.

I can't believe how long this thread has lived!!!

Re: Ouch!!!

Funny this was brought back as i was just talking to someone about it this past weekend and wondering the same myself.
Was trying to remember who and why. Finally remembered. it was Tbirdchick/Jan's friend Jeff. He was telling me about how he took grandma's money she gave him for school and blew it on a hotrod charger or some car like that. Didn't even get out of the driveway. Revved it up to 7-8000 and let off the clutch. Things went flying and even the cowl got diced and the engine block was trashed and all kinds of fun things. Then he called the junkyard to come get it and bought the granny car he should of gotten in the first place. His dad replied to his question of if the Comet was still for sale, "so, going to buy something sensible now huh"
That was in the 70s. Funny as heck hearing the story.

You'll get to it some time Cain! At least you are doing it the safer way this time round.
