damn, the wife LOVES the 96 bronco eddie baer

well today my wife and i went out walking and took a walk near the lemon lot on base and saw the 96 bronco i talked about in my other threads.

the wife loves it and she is considering getting rid of the mustang to get this. the bronco has flawless looking paint (minus a little shopping cart ding), completely flawless interior and i mean flawless. its already got a great sound system. its a 5.8 motor so its not the slow 5.0.

it has great oil pressure at idle (more than half guage), has no leaks anywhere. he has all receipts for all oil changes and maintenance. thing charges like its suppose to at 14v, is only 1/4 guage worth of water temp. everything looks great on this truck.

i wasn't able to take pictures cuz just as i got done off-roading it, it got dark so it was useless. i love the size of the inside and i got to love the captain chairs inside.

however some of you guys warned me to tow with this thing. however he said he's pulled a 20 ft boat with it that was 6k and it pulled absolutely fine. he said the only time it would actually start swaying was when he went over 70mph. anything under 70mph it wouldn't sway.

all in all, do you think the 5.8 is better motor in the bronco? how about towing? if you guys really don't think i shouldn't tow with it, then i'll just use it as a family car (whats its intended for ), icy road condition riding, off-roading fun vehicle.

all feedback would be appreciated. its about 6k and i'm going to put a for sale sign on the mustang now.

The Bronco is not BAD to tow with, it's just as good as a 1/2 ton truck. The 351 will be quite a bit better than the 5.0 also, and probably about the same mileage. As far as swaying while towing... I had that problem when I was running 33" Uniroyal tires, but that instantly went away when I swapped to 35" BFG All Terrains... best looking/driving truck tires ever made IMO . I'd say go for it... as I said, I love Broncos, and if the 351 ever goes bad, you can replace it with a nice 393 stroker. Make sure you take lots of pics and post them here

motorhead,

how does your bronco perform towing? i'm just curious and i've had my buddy darryl say not to do it. however, the truck has 32 inch BFG's. which he bought just a few thousand miles ago. the guy also put in a 3 inch magnaflow exhaust with a brand new cat.

looks like you and i got some talking to do. by the way, i hear people say that you can get a stock replacement 5.0 motor in a mustang installed for 1800. how much would it cost to get a new 5.8 installed if worse to come to worse 50k down the road.

6K pound 20 foot boat? Must be made of lead (Pb). FWIW, I had an 88 Bronco that I used to pull a 21 foot Chapparal that weighed 3300 pounds. It pulled great, and I had the puny(?) 5.0 motor. I agree with you about the captains chairs...I'm thinking of getting a set for my 79 F100, they're great. That Bronco will make your fuel bill go up. But, if it's what ya'll want...go for it. It sounds like a cherry.

I have a 95 EB. Great Truck. Outside of someone doing something stupid...the engine will last you way past 100K miles.

The biggest worry on any Bronc is the front brakes. They get a lot of wear, should be changed or checked every 10 K miles...religiously. It's really easy to spend $300 in parts to replace the rotors.

Not real sure I would use an EB for Off-roading, at least not in back country. They are a little too "purty" for that kind of abuse. Not that they can't do it, it's just a lot smarter to start with a "stripper" model if that is your intention. Climbing in-n-out of that carpet and leather will turn Cinderella into one of the Ugly sisters in a big hurry.

The electronic engagement for 4-wheel drive is known to be a little dicey if not used regularly. So before putting down the greenbacks, have the front-end closely checked for rotor thickness, ABS and 4x4 engagement and disengagement. Small as they look, the late model Bronco weighs in at nearly 6000 lbs, (5830 on the shipping wt. on the door tag, if I remember it right) you can understand why gas milage will never be 25 - 30 to the gal, lucky to get 16 - 17mpg. The good thing is the 25 or 30 gal tank will go a long time between fillups...then bad thing is you will , everytime you watch the pump take a days wages to fill that bad boy.

I run 33's, mostly in town and some unimproved back roads...never been in deep country with it, I have an 81 Bronco Ranger for that.

whats the best way to make sure the 4x4 is engaging and disengaging properly?

oh yea with the fuel bill thing going up, well i hear people get 13mpg right now iwth bronco. well the mustang gets 10-12 mpg city. so i'll see a slight improvement. however the highway is where i'll feel it though. the highway with the 5.0 stang i've gotten well over 20 when i hear the bronco is lucky to get 16-17 which doesn't bother me. if i have to go on a long drive i'll just take the sport trac which got me 25-28mpg strictly highway.

this bronco will be only a 4x4 fun runner, work commuter (only 1 mile away), and a grocery getter. so the fuel bill doesn't bother me, it won't be any worse than the 5.0 stang with all the stuff on it and 3.73 gears. it won't drive more than 500 miles a month. i promise.
