What\'s the fastest you\'ve ever been on the highway
A couple of summers ago I took my 89LX back to my home town and while I was there I gave my nephew a ride and I wound that old 460Pi up 6500 in high gear and later I did a calculation with gear ratio, tire size and rpm and I figure I was going about 147mph. That 460 was still wantin' more too! I also mark that as the STUPIDEST thing I ever did too. [img]/phpBB/images/smiles/icon_frown.gif[/img]

What\'s the fastest you\'ve ever been on the highway
I'd say about 120 in my '67 Galaxie with the original 289 and FMX (200,000 miles). When I first got it adn gave it a tune-up running flat out it would only go up to just shy of 120.
A little tweaking with the timing and it got up above it, but not by much I imagine. It sure took a while to go those last 10-15 MPH. I don't think the 289 had the torque to move that big car any faster with the 2.80:1 gears. Sure was fun doing 75 MPH in 1st gear though!

Now my '68, I don't think I've even had that up to 100. Fastest I cruise at on the highway is 75-80 and I've had it up to about 90-95 briefly a couple times. I don't wanna screw around going too fast in my car. Too risky for me, and it takes so much more attention to drive these old cars that fast. They weren't made to cruise that fast so I just drive where I can easily control the car and be comfortable.

Ummm.... whatever 6500 rpm in 4th gear with a 3.25 gear and a 245/60/15 tire comes out to. I calculated around 155 to 160.

Oh, guess what happens when you do that with the windows down???

The fast moving air past the windows sucks a vacuum on the interior of the car and the headliner permanantly bends its metal retaining rods as it drops over your head, obstructing your vision! [img]/phpBB/images/smiles/icon_eek.gif[/img]

In addition, your sphincter crushes any residual organic matter into diamonds. [img]/phpBB/images/smiles/icon_lol.gif[/img]

5500rpms with 2.75 gears with a 28 inch tires with the 351w and a peg leg rear.

on my odometer with the tranny gear for the 3.25, it was maxed at the 120mark.

i think that was the fastest she'll go. when i swaped to 3.89 gears with the correct gear in trans, all i could go was 110.

137 in my Lincoln Mark VIII and these cars Are quiet at those speeds and handle quite nice
