Wirt County man arrested on murder charges; two bodies identified
ELIZABETH - A Wirt County man was arrested early Sunday morning in connection with the discovery of two bodies in Wirt Authorities are continuing their investigation into the discovery of two dead bodies in Wirt County.
Following his arrest early Saturday morning in Parkersburg, Roger Dean Flinn, 43, of Elizabeth, was arraigned by video before Wood County Magistrate Emily Bradley Saturday night on two counts of first-degree murder. He is being held without bond until a hearing can be held in Wood County Circuit Court, where bond must be set in all capital cases.
Authorities had not released the identities of the man and woman Saturday, but the magistrate court criminal complaint released by Bradley stated the victims were Russell Ray Eastham and Sylvia L. Fittro.
According to the complaint, Daniel Neptune, no age or address available, provided a sworn statement Friday that he was present and a witness when Flinn allegedly kicked in the door to gain access to the residence of Eastham and Fittro. Upon gaining access, Flinn allegedly shot and killed the man and woman.
No further information was available Saturday night.
The case began when the Wirt County Sheriff's Department and the West Virginia State Police were called to a trailer along West Virginia 14 near the Roane County line just after 7 a.m. Friday in response to a man's body found in a ditch.
A blood trail from the body led to a residence about 200 yards south where authorities and found the body of a woman and an uninjured 10-month-old girl inside. The child was not harmed in any way and was turned over to Wirt County Child Protective Services.
Both were transported to the West Virginia Medal Examiner's office in Charleston for autopsies.
