Did I do the right thing?

THis is non-car, but definitely a guy thing and I'd like to hear what you think.

Tonight I was watching TV with my oldest son and heard a bunch of yelling and then saw a huge ball of fire through the blinds. I looked out the window and saw about 8 little bastards (15 years old it turns out) running away leaving both the street and my yard in flames.

I figured out they'd made a Molotov Cocktail out of an old salad dressing bottle and threw it in the street from my yard (I'm a corner lot). I saw the house they ran into and everything, but decided to let it go because I did more than my share of dumb sh*t as a kid. Then I kept looking around and realized they'd peed all over the sidewalk, and one of them had taken a dump in my yard and - get this - actually wiped and left it all there. That pretty much sent me through the roof, so I went to the house and knocked on the door but they wouldn't answer, and was so pissed I just called the cops.

In the end we got all their names, a police report, and about half of their Dads to show up. The longer I talked the them, the more I realized they were just ordinary, dumb kids out doing dumb stuff on a Saturday night with nothing better to do. Thing is, I could understand the Molotov - think it was stupid, but I understand. . Using my yard as a toilet is what got to me. I tore them all new asses, which they deserved, but now for some reason I feel bad about calling the cops . . . is that stupid? Tell me it's stupid. I feel like a hypocrite for some reason!

Oh yeah, and to keep it car related, I finally get the Mustang back next week after 9 months in the shop!

Well it is documented in case you have more problems. It also may give the kids a good scare and make there parents realize that they obviously aren't doing their jobs and knowing what their kids are up to.
I guess I'm weird but I think the kids should be made to clean up the mess they made but I suppose that would be cruel and unusual punishment Or maybe do some volunteer work cleaning bed pans at the hospital! See if they want to continue there scatalogical pastimes Stu

you did the right thing

Is there a reason they targeted your yard? Have you or your family had problems with them before?

Your 99.999999999999999999999999999 % right! It is not your job to round up ALL the dads to have the kids clean up their mess(your yard).

MAYBE they learned a little something with their experience. At the very least they know not to mess with you no more!

Oh, And you handled it way better then I would have.

I would have done the same if not worse. Problem is, now they'll want revenge.

Guess thats better then there mom or dad calling the cops on you because you caught them and took it apon yourself to kick each and everyone of there asses. I'm like you I understand kids being kids but ****ting in your yard? come on. Seems like kids have no respect at all these days and the bad thing is I'm not that old (29).

Thanks guys - yeah, I even told them that if they didn't wind up burning themselves to death, the next guy might not be quite as worried about their age and kick the sh*t out of them like I wanted to. Got a chuckle out of that from them. I hope they don't retaliate - in the end I think they knew they screwed up and that I wouldn't have called the cops if it weren't for the steaming pile in the lawn, and that all things considered I was pretty cool about it.

Just don't get it though - seems like the kind of thing you'd think was funny when you were like 8, not 15.
