You Gotta Be Tough If you\'re Gonna be Stupid - or stupid gearhead stories

Stupid= picking up my 64 Galaxie from the transmission shop and trying to do a power brake burn out (ar only had a 289,auto). Seem the tranny shop stole my stock trans cross member for the shop owners sons vehicle and gave me something that would not even allow my tranny to bolt up! The end result was that when I tried to power brake the motor mounts tore loose and the engen turned about 30 degrees to one side. the only thing keeping it from spinning was the exhaust. the fan cut through the upper radiator hose and the shift linkage came out of the tranny. So waht was supposed to be an awesome display for my bro turned out kinda wimpy and humble.

Dont reach across a carb to blip the throttle when you know you are chasing down an intake backfiring problem...Altho, the hair will grow back.

One other I thought of today. I grew up in the 70's, so like most of the dudes I hung around with, I had hair half way down my back (from my head, I wasn't growing a sweater). My parents had bought me a creeper for Christmas. I was rolling around under my 67 442, probably adjusting the POS clutch linkage, when I rolled over my hair. I got my hair so tangled up in the creeper wheel that I couldn't go foreward or backward. I hollered for a while & nobody came. Don't remember exactly how I got out, but I learned a valuable lesson....Never use a creeper...lol

Rick

Haven't used one to this day.

A few years ago i was cutting up a fallen tree with a chain saw, it was idling and the chain was spinning slowly, i swung my leg to kick a small branch out of the way, well the chain saw was there too. I have kind of a cool scar there now because the skin had to grow over the area where the chain took out.

Well this summer at work, I work at a truck shop, I was doing a service on a feed truck, long story short, came out of the pit way to fast, up the stairs and rammed my head into the rear bumper resuling in a tear in the skin almost all the way across the top of my head, lots of blood and stitches and a massive headache. Then theres the time using the wire brush on a angle grinder to clean the rust off the floorpans of the stang, well the brush found the hole to access the bolts the seat on and then found my neck and made its way up to my chin, that one wasn't pleasant, then I found my knee a couple of times and to top it off, I got my forehead once to, but that car is rust free now! And this list goes on and on, but these are some of the better and funnier stories!
