Power Possibilities in a 200 I-6

Hay Gary
This guy at Calssic inlines is haveing an U.S. alumunum head designed and built for our U.S. I 6's Says be ready in a couple of months.. might be spendy but well flow better that the Auzz heads, and your well be able to run anyking of intake you want. heres a piace of his sticky post

************************************************** **
Over the past couple weeks, the machinist has called me numerous times to go over each and every little detail. In those weeks I could hear his passion for the project grow. Tonight when he called with the flow numbers, he was almost as estatic as I was. I doubt I could have picked anyone better for the job. It took for years looking for the right team, and they have all performed way above my expectations. But my hat is off to the machinist, who took this under his wing as if it were his own child. What more could anyone ask for.

Chamber Size: 55cc (however we can leave a bit more facing for 57-58cc)
Valve size - Intake: 1.840
Valve size - Exhaust: 1.500 (more below)

Flow numbers at 28"

Intake
100=52
200=99
300=143
400=180 (better than the OZ250 @ 600)
500=201
600=210 (our goal was 200)

Exhaust (the best part)
100=40
200=79
300=111 (better than the log or OZ head @ 600)
400=144
500=160
600=164 (our goal was 150)

High velocity ports, fast burn chamber with excellent quench and fuel distribution. These guys nailed it.

Now to even up the anti a bit more. The exhaust valve used in the proto type was a 1.50 as that is all that was available. The production head will be using a custom 1.55 with a 20 degree back angle. This will increase the flow and may get it up over the 170 mark. Also remember, the ports have not been polished or touch (yet).

Yea I know....
What is strange is the valves size's you say yours came with he says the from 77 on they had 1.75 in 1.5 ext valve's and both the 200 and the 250 were about the same. chamber size of 62cc's..
You might want to go to the site and check out the sticky's on better oiling head hints, the DSII install (direct swap). and such...
Good luck with the motor..

My 1978 head has stock 1.39 exhaust, I never looked at the intakes yesterday because to me it's plenty but the exhauset definitely needed biggerizing!

Thanks Tim!
I will aim for this:
Custom Cam (of course)
10.2 to 10.4:1 comp.
Major head port work. (I'm doing all this work inmy garage)
Major valve upsizing.
Possible intake runner extensions to bring my torque power curve higher up on the rpm scale.
Balanced rotating assembly so I can go to 7 or 8K rpm without worrying.

I dont know if Clifford still sells them but I used a manifold from them that bolted to the intake log that added 2 more carbs. You bored the corrisponding holes in the log and this "manifold" provided the mounting pads and such for the carbs. I will see if I can scan the pics I have of mine and post them. I also used one of their cams and header set ups. The whole package worked really well, just a pain to keep the carbs synced.

Gary, I wouldn't with Clifford.if I didn't have to According to other 6 cyl. guys, they're not too pleasant to deal with and your parts will come "when they come." I've got a link somewhere to another 6 banger specialty joint that I'll find for you.

CaptVirgilHilts, I think I have that mag. Is it titled something like "The Pico Rivera Flash"? and I think it was a '69 Mustang coupe with a 250 if I remember correctly. It was from "Mustang" back in 1983 I think. If it isn't, than oh well, but if it is, than I remember it really well because it was such a cool article and the name really stuck in my head. I might even still have that issue.

That's it, I just found it. Hot Rod Mustang magazine #3. page 90. It shows the old Offy kit and a few other tricks. Stu
