Power Possibilities in a 200 I-6
WHat do you reckon I can squeeze out of my 1070 200 I-6 in my '61 Falcon?
It sit's factory rated at 120...
As I see it all of the minuses in the 200 are located in the Head.
The bore and stroke of this thing are 3.68 X 3.126, my bore is 3.72, so I have about 202 or 203 cubes to work with and with (seven) 7 main bearings I bet it will handle 7,500 rpms with all the propers attached and some good connecting rods...
For instance 3 carbs....
I figure that fuel delivery from 3, 1v carbs would better distribute the AF mixture than 1, 4v would. and it would look neater and a Ford 1V carb is super easy to tune...
I currently have a head I am going to perform some upgrades to.
(separately I am going to check into an injection design too)
I am going to open the integral intake, I am going to open the intake ports and the exhaust ports mucho mucho, the intake valve is a very decent size already and I believe it can support my needs and the exhaust will be further looked at this week for enlargement.
I don't want to use the Aussie heads because they're expensive and well... A long way away to tell the truth...
I want a full on 200 pushing over 200hp.
Anyone think I can do it without power adders?
Have any suggestions?
FE

Power Possibilities in a 200 I-6
I have heard that the 170 head is the better head than the 200 head when it comes to performance because it is the better flowing head. The 200 can be spun super hard, just look at what the BMW inline six can do. 200 horsepower should be attainable. I think fuel injection would get you to the power level you want easier than the triple carb setup and be a lot more practical to drive. I would love to build that same motor you are doing and I would do everything plus I would turbocharge and intercool it. I know you don't want power adders, but a turbo on an inline six would be so cool and would probably make at least 300 horsepower.

I used to have a 250 with a 170, maybe 200 head, I can't remember.
I cut the intake off with an angle grinder, welded on a mild steel plate, and bought an Aussie made triple SU carb manifold. Fitted 1 3/4" SU carbs and hot cam. Usual basic suff, besides a really good combustion chamber clean up. The car went like a shower of ****! .....Aussie slang for Falcon Fast.

Like I said. I am useing a 200 head, on a 200 block with a 200 crank, non Aussie stuff only!
I guess I'm going to just shut up and do it myself and post the results without any advice...
I might go get me a 170 crank somewhere, have it offset ground and fit some rods to it and get some flat top pistons to fit it and go for a one million rpm spinning machine~ It will spin fast though, and with 7 main bearings the block is very very tough....
I'll very likely just sit with the all 200 stuff though...

This guy did up a six with the aussie cross flow head.

This guy did a WHOLE aussie motor... Nothing in or on that 250 is from the American side of the table.
Besides he's vyying for 200 HP out of 250+ cubes. I'm going for 200 HP with 200 cubes! Oooooooohhhhh yeeaaaaahhhhhhh

I would do like Danv said and cut the intake off at the head. That will give you better access to the intake ports for porting, and then you can weld on either a plate to bolt your own intake design to, or weld some pipe directly to it, to make a longer, straighter intake runner for MUCH better peak torque. If you get the overall length of each intake runner (from carb to valve) to be around 10-12 inches it will make awesome torque around 3500-4500rpm, while still being able to flow in the upper RPM to build good HP. Just give all the pipes a gradual bend to have them merge to one small plenum, where you can put whatever carb you want.

Don't get you panties in a tight crack... Gary....
The link I posted above well link you to the guys the run the I 6's with trip carb, modified logs, headers , turbo's and the such... they can get you in the right direction to go. Like the best flowing 200 head, best CR. to go for and such...
You don't realy execpt guys that run V8's to be able to help you on a I-6. Not unless they work on all kinds of motors..
Try the link...
I beleve I gave it to you before when you first got the falcon. these guys know there 6's
