Got the \'68 to the Track

Woke up at 6am to the sound of rain on the roof, figured no racing today (stupid weatherman!). Decided to go anyway around 6am figuring to at least get the car teched.

Get to the track and the track is dry and cars are lining up to run. Yippee! Falcon goes through tech with zero issues.

1st pass is just a cruise down the strip to see how the car hooks, handles, etc. Nothing really worth mentioning.

Rain returns, 2.5 hour delay. Finally back in the lanes and there are five more delays including a blown rear end on the starting line of the lane I’m in about eight cars ahead of me. 45 minutes later I’m in the water box and another delay from parts falling off the car ahead of me. Not having a charging system is beginning to make me nervous for all these restarts and running the accessories.

I finally get restarted after shutting everything off to get more juice to the starter, do my burnout and make my pass. Run feels good, car is pulling well. Through the traps, slowing down, make the turn to the return road and WHOOSH, I’m looking at steam and water covering my windshield. Oh, $hit! Pull over and look down at the gauges and notice my water pump switch is not exactly in the ON position. Yup, I forgot to turn the water pump back on.

Out of the car to see what happened and there’s my upper radiator hose, engine end dangling in the breeze. Crappy little chrome t-stat housing (only one available when I was ready to buy one) didn’t have enough grip to hold the hose when the pressure built up. Temp gauge only showed 180 and there’s no water in the oil so at this point it doesn’t look like I hurt the motor.

All things considered it was a pretty good first time out.

R/T was crap
60’ was 1.61
ET was 12.30
MPH was 106

Should be able to tune another second out of it but I no longer think we’ll be able to see 10’s with this combination.

Video is in FM Video.

Sounds like an interesting day. I'd take a day like that than what I've been dealing with for the past 7 months!

Happy to hear you at least got it on the track. With the crazy weather changing by the hour and which block you are on it's a miracle! You'll do better next time and hopefully without all the delays.

All things considered I pleased. The weather was goofy, cars breaking, a FNG goof on my part that thankfully happened at the end of the run on the return road and didn't contibute to any delays, yeah not too bad of a day. Better than yesterday, working on the brakes on my truck (http://www.fordmuscle.com/forums/the...ady_58763.html). Found I had total failure of the braking system. Both front cylinders, master cylinder and power booster, all dead.

Upside to that is that it all manifested itself INSIDE my garage. Better there than rolling down the highway with the car on the trailer. But working all day on the brakes when all I wanted to de was relax kind of sucked. But I had to fix it yesterday because I had to return the borrowed trailer today.

Ah well, now I can relax and have that drink. Then it's on to learning the Black Art of Mechanical Fuel Injection Tuning.

Thanks again.

Wake up Murff!! driving school at 10:00 (starting line)....just kidding. got the wheels off the line on the first run...You're my hero. Enderle injection & all. I've watched all of your videos on FM & u-tube & that late model Falcon is awsome.

Rancheroo, no $hit driving school. Ay the end of the video you hear the Totally Awesome Missus Murff asking about my reaction time. All she had to do was look at her watch.

FATNFAST, this engine is in a designated No Spray Zone. KB hyper pistons and no desire to turn them into shrapnel.

We're actually kind of hoping to hit that magic number where the stock block splits in half from too much power. I've got my eye on this 438" short block from Ohio Crankshaft for $4200. That sucker'll get me in the tens by crackee!
