Leak Checker

It's about time to get off my duff and at least start thinking about getting the injection tune process rolling for the Falcon.

I'm going to need a leakdown gauge and I am wondering what anybody else has done for one. Did you make one, buy one, single gauge, dual gauge, or what?

I have an idea of what I'm going to need but I am curious as to what everyone else that uses one has done.

Thanks

Buying one is probably the easiest way to go, building one out of top notch components may allow for more accuracy.

As I understand it they are very useful for more than just tuning my barrel valve and bypass pills. They are also supposed to be good for checking cylinder leakage as well.

Would have thought more of the engine builders would chime in. Guess not.

I have a cylinder leak down set up I bought from snap on. I wasn't sure if this is what you were talking about for your injection. I am not that familiar with mechanical injection (?) or the tuning of. The leakage tester uses two guages, I believe them both to be 90 psi, and a regulator. I think it was in the area of $200 and I feel it was worth the money. It is well built and came in a nice case. It uses standard air hose couplers and could be adapted to about anything. I hope this helps, and am curious how it would work in your tuning process.

im thinkin what your lookin for is what we call a pop off guage like we use on the drag sled. You put in fuel and pump the rod the guage raises and then the pressure relief pops , the guage falls . Tells us what to set our carb at for equal pressure . Sound anything like that murff >>> Cus i could get yah one

Is that generally what a leak down test tells you? I've never used one...

What's the original reason for a leak down test?

Sorry guys, I wasn't looking for advice on the injection, I was looking for feedback on the gauge set itself.

SCode, your Snap-On unit is the type I am considering. I have been told I can use the dual gauge like yours and perform the calculations or use a single gauge and just take direct readings.

The process is similar to cylinder checking, only I will be checking the pills (or jets) in the barrel valve to see how much fuel is going past at high speed and adjusting from there.

mustang42782, your setup sounds like it performs a similar task but wet instead of dry. I'm wondering if that gives a more precise reading than an air setup.

Summit has a dual gauge setup for about $70, Tavia offers one for around $100. I haven't checked prices yet on a single gauge unit. I just want to be sure if I go the less expensive route that I am not cheating myself out of a quality tool because of mass production.

Thanks
