Update on my fleet of cars.

Unless you are racing your engine degreeing your cam is a waste of time. That Montego is a 73. Just line up the timing marks like the good book say's and you'll be better than fine.

FE
Please let us know what the marks look like when you take off the cover. Where they are sitting and how well they line up afer taking off the timing cover.

Update on my fleet of cars.

no problem man but since right now the car will fire up but runs so poorly it is NOT a broken cam right? With a broken cam it would not run at all correct?

Oh yeah and the only parts I need to do this is timing set water pump gasket and a new front oil pan seal right?

Also is there a trick to getting the front timing cover back on without taking a few bolts out of the oil pan and prying it down a bit thats how i have always done it wondering if there was a trick to it i never had a car leak like this just wondering

I don't think there is... you are going to have to loosen at least the first 4 on each side IIRC.

The cam don't sound broke so I don't think there's a problem there. But you CAN run a car with a broken cam, it just depends on where it's broke.

A timing set for your application should cover everything you need gasket wise. Key Word is "should"

Update on my fleet of cars.

Ok checked it all over again the timing marks match up perfectly on the gears but the chain is loose still and now i checked the distributor and it is pointing at the number one plug so now i am confused what bent my pushrods to hell i hope its not a cam problem.

Took off the cover and pointed the rotot to #1 and the timing gears line up perfectly?

Did you fail to mention that your sister was flooring the engine and floating the valves when it died?

That can bend the pushrods...

I am really confused now.... I'll keep thinking on it...

The good thing is that the car isn't something like a 2001 etc. No ton of garbage to remove and simpler.
I guess I missed if it was running right to begin with and then messed up and the pushrods bent?

Also when she would start it she would not rev it just put her foot into it and as soon as it caught take her foot out of it.

I was wondering if all the timing marks looked good when you took off the timing cover? LIke the cam sprocket adn crank sprocket dot's loined up relativelt close to where they are suppodes to be and not a tooth off....

Play with the Gal today, I'll be around later
