We Be Dead

Well, our season is over before it even started.

Things just haven't been going my way on our 351W the past few weeks and I just had a hunch that I may have damaged the innards.

Pulled the engine last night and disassembled today. It could be worse I guess but the cam amd the crank are both dead. I checked a couple of my lifters and they too appear to be mortally wounded. Cylinders are suspect, too. Cursory inspection of the heads revealed no obvious damage but I'll tear those down later. I can only handle so much good news at a time.

I thought I had crossed my t's and dotted my i's but something got through the oil system and caused all of this. Possible culprit is silicone as I had to use it to seal up the intake adapter plates. Also found a sharp edge on one of the lifters, metal may have come from there.

So we go back to square one and start the rebuilding process. Problem is, there just ain't no sheckles left in the bucket. I'll have to do a little bit here and there as the budget allows.

On the upside I didn't split the block, although it may have been more fun to kill this thing that way. I expected it to last most of the summer and then I would find a way to justify the 434W I have my eye on but that just ain't gonna happen this year.

I read somewhere a long time ago that when you break something you 'fix it faster'. I am going to be looking for some pistons to use with my World heads so we can get static compression up to 13:1 or better to start the migration to alcohol during the rebuild.

Anyway, long post, long day. I'll drop by from time to time but for the most part I'm going to be concentrating on making some of that 'car money' I need.

See ya.

Bummers The neighbors probably aren't too thrilled either or their thrill will be short lived hopefully and you'll be test driving it around the block again in no time.
