Exclusivity For Collectors

From the latest news at Ford it would appear that Americans are becoming car collectors.Ford is only going to produce a quanity of 2300 Shelby GT's for the upcoming 2008 model year. They said the reason was exclusivity for collectors. The cars will be built in Flatrock,Mich.,shipped to Shelby in Las Vegas & shipped to the dealers once Shelby has done their magic.I hate to see the shipping charges on these bad boys. Calspec

Re: Exclusivity For Collectors

It might end up being like the new Ford GT, where some dealers auctioned them off to the highest bidder.

Re: Exclusivity For Collectors

danv: A friend of mine recently bid on a GT 500 at a local dealer. He ended up paying $14,000.00 above list price. Now that doesn't make good sense to us working stiffs, but it's just part of the game to the rich & famous. The last I heard Reggie Jackson has over 500 high performance cars in his collection.I would guess the boys with the green keep the economy moving along at a decent pace.Calspec

PS: I live 2 miles from an Air Force base & my son is in the Air Force.I have been picking at him about flying my Stang down under to your part of the world.I'd love to cruise around for a weekend and see what kind of reaction the Stang would get from the locals.

Re: Exclusivity For Collectors

Yours is a late model Mustang isn't it?
I have only seen one here, which was privately imported by a dealer.
I think ther is a company over east who is bringing a few of them in, and converting them to right hand drive, which is law, unless the car is over 15 years old.
Now if your talking about a Mustang plane, we got one of them here too!

No Mustang plane. I was joking with my son about driving my car into the back of one of the transport jets & getting a free ride to your part of the world.Calspec

Re: Exclusivity For Collectors

There was a US base at Exmouth in the North of Western Australia, and up to around the late 1980s, they brought in a heap of US muscle, and drove around keeping them left hand drive. The town was basically all US!
That's one of the reasons/ways, a lot of US cars got here.
When the officers left, they quite often sold their cars off to the Aussies, because they got more money than they would have back home.
Then, another bunch of officers would come, with more cars LOL!
