When were they interduced Torque thrusts

I am going to go to the hunnert car pile up car show in a month and want to have period wheels on my ride. I have Magnum 500 now and gave away 15 inch slots but have a set of 14 inch torque thrusts. This show is is for 64 and older cars and they want cars to be period. This show is for 'hot rods'. So I guess my question is did the torque thrusts come out before 1964. What year did Magnums come out. If I have to use the torque thrusts then I need to buy tires and what size 14 in will fit. I currently have 235 70 15s on rear and 205 70 15s in the front.

I believe Magnums where first available in 1961. I spoke to a '61 Starliner owner that had them and he said they were available that year just not as an option. The next time they show up is in '66 as Shelby wheels.

TT's are period correct for your car. TTd's (disc) may have come a bit later but not much.

Re: When were they interduced Torque thrusts

This link will tell you a lot about wheels made by "American Racing" ...

It appears from this info Torque Thrusts would have been the newest thing out in 64. Most likely so new they were not yet known and popular ... however I'll bet whoever saw them back then thought they looked as cool as we we still think they look today.

From all I can find easily ... it appear Magnum 500s came on Dodge muscle cars as an option in 68 ... didn't find any real clear info ... near as I can tell "Motor Wheel Company" first made them in 67.

Re: When were they interduced Torque thrusts

As stated the TT's are peirod correct for your car. Although the TT's would look great on your car I personaly think the the 500 Magnums look right at home on there.
You would go through all of that bother and expense for one car show?
If it ain't broke...but if you are bored and looking for a new look then go for it.

personal opinion, but I dont like the TTd's. Their so played out. I see them on so many cars its unbelievable, is why I didnt wanna go with them.

I like the 500s on your car, id leave em and agree with Iethiopian, a set of new tires for just 1 car show? Or would you swap them out regularly?

You'll be fine. Believe me, they wont care. I go every year and the last two years they were going to let my 65 galaxie in, (waved me to the entrance gate) I had to tell them I just drove it down to see the show.

Most of the cars there are more of the rat rod (they HATE whe you call them that) or 50s customs type, with a few 60s gassers thrown in.

I am going to keep the TTs for future project like Fairlane or or Mustang. I am going to put Mark discs on Galaxie next year and 14s wont fit then. Will probly use them on My sons Cougar till he gets his new rims.

'66 Shelby's had Magnums as an option ( a lot of Hertz cars had them) so they were definitely pre '67. The fellow's Starliner I was referring to was John Vermeersh BTW so he does know a "bit" about Fords!
