I Just Ordered The " 2008 Bullitt Mustang "

Hi Guys

My wife and I went down to the Ford dealer here in Las Vegas where we live on: Nov.17th and oredered: THE 2008 'BULLITT' GREEN MUSTANG WOW!

Here my experience; give the dealer a $5,000.00 down payment to order the car. He said I was the third person on his list (that was great news for me)

Next he say " . . . I can't give you a price yet due to the fact we didn't get a price ourselves."
Now guys I read and know the car is going for somewhere around 32 to 33K.

What bothers me BIG TIME is this: The dealer in and around the country add on as much as: 10 to 20K to the original price. I really don't know how on earth they get away with this cr-p !!!!

Look guys I really like the car BIG TIME but paying an additional $20 grand over the original price is not for me. I'll go about; 10 to 15K the most.

In the agreement I signed with the 5K down payment fro the BULLITT,my wife (she's an attorney, GOD love that women) She stipualated we get our 5K back if the price of the car is JACK-UP TOO HIGH, LIKE 20K OVER THE PRICE.

That's it guys. Please if you order the BULLITT please share and tell me what your experiences were? Or anything pertaining to the '08 BULLITT.

Thanks Guys
GOD BLESS

Schooner

Re: I Just Ordered The " 2008 Bullitt Mustang "

They get away with it because poeple like you give dealers 5 grand without knowing what the final price is going to be. I hear this all the time from our group and if no one bought the damn cars, the price would get in line where it should be. Same dealer gimmick holds true for those Shelby cars. And how are you going to determine if the price is too high? Do you think the dealer (who has primed the pump by telling you they do not know how much the car is going to cost them) is going to tell you he added 20K to the price? He knows. Don't believe anything he tells you.

And for those of you out there that are over 50 remember when the Datsun "Z" car came out and there was a list of hundreds of people out there that had to have the car. Oil sheiks were paying dealers to move their name to the top of the lists. Let see where are all of those "collectible" cars. Oh yea! They were rust buckets and they're all gone! Then there was the over pricing of the Neon station wagon (more popularly know as the PT Cruiser).

So spend the money because you want to but please don't cry the blues! I doubt you will get much sympathy here.

Later!
Mr. Ed

Schooner, I don't believe anyone should pay ONE PENNY over Suggested Retail Price EVER.
Suggested Retail is KNOWN Long before the car is made. In fact, it's likely the same car as this years mustang with about $200 dollars in diffrent parts...
The dealership knows exactly how much it costs and how much they are going to sell it for....
Paying more to get something nobody else has yet is just silly....

Re: I Just Ordered The " 2008 Bullitt Mustang "

My wife's family used to deal with a broker. He was a retired Ford salesman that hung out his own shingle. Didn't work out of any one dealer, would source cars and broker the deal, then the car was either delivered or picked up, customers choice.

Seems to me that another option used to be to order the car directly from Ford, fly to Dearborn and take delivery. Does Ford still offer that? Be a good way to cut the local dealer out of the loop.

You've either got some very deep pockets or you're..., well I won't go there. Can't imagine making that kind of deposit without knowing what the bottom line was.

So if what you say is true, then an additional $19,999.99 markup is in order. That adds up to an instant built in depreciation of about 30K once you sign the papers unless you get lucky and the car becomes a collector item one day.

Good luck and I hope it works out to your benefit.

Re: I Just Ordered The " 2008 Bullitt Mustang "

* More horses: Featuring the latest in Ford Racing Technology, Bullitt's 4.6-liter V-8 delivers 315 horsepower and 325 pound-feet of torque.
* Sport-tuned: Modified chassis and suspension improves an already competent and capable chassis to deliver the most balanced Mustang ever.
* Film-inspired: Dark Highland Green exterior paint calls back the original movie car, while a specially mastered DVD helped Ford engineers deliver an exhaust note that matches the film.
* Mustang magic: Bullitt is the latest in a line of special editions that keep Mustang news fresh. Plus, it delivers on the Mustang tradition of unique products that fit customers' individual preferences: a steed for every need.
* Bottom line: Bullitt carries on the Mustang tradition of affordable performance with a $31,075 Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price (MSRP). A limited production run of 7,700 units is planned.
MUSTANG BULLITT WINS, KEEPS FANS 40 YEARS RUNNING
SAN FRANCISCO, Nov. 6 - Four decades after hitting the big screen and redefining the on-screen car chase, the Ford Mustang Bullitt returns to the streets in 2008, blending the best Mustang ever with the latest Ford Racing technology.
This modern classic delivers a balance of power and performance, thanks to special chassis and suspension tweaks as well as the 315 horsepower and 325 pound-feet of torque that Bullitt delivers through its 4.6-liter V-8 engine.
"The 2008 Mustang Bullitt embodies the true spirit of the 1968 movie car," said Derrick Kuzak, group vice president, Global Product Development. "Like the original Bullitt, this car dials the driving dynamics up a notch for Mustang enthusiasts who love the performance, handling and the sweet sound of Ford power that only Mustang can deliver."
The 2008 Bullitt arrives in dealers early next year, with a starting MSRP of $31,075 (including destination and delivery) and limited production of 7,700 units for the U.S. and Canada.
The launch of the limited edition 2008 Mustang Bullitt coincides with the 40th anniversary of the release of the Warner pos. Pictures film that gave the original car its name. In the movie, legendary actor Steve McQueen drove a Dark Highland Green 1968 Mustang GT that gained cult status among Mustang enthusiasts, thanks to a seven-minute scene that film and car buffs believe defined the modern movie car chase.
Bullitt Chassis Delivers a Balance of Performance and Comfort
Ford engineers modified the 2008 Mustang Bullitt's chassis and suspension to fine-tune handling and ensure the extra horsepower and torque from the 4.6-liter V-8 is put to good use. The
live rear axle uses a unique 3.73:1 gear that helps launch the Bullitt with vigor.
Stock Mustang GT shocks and struts were swapped out for new units that allowed engineers to dial in a more aggressive driving dynamic while still maintaining the outstanding ride and balance of the base Mustang GT. A tower-to-tower pace designed specifically for the Bullitt lends additional torsional and lateral stiffness to the chassis for improved cornering and holds a unique serial number for each Bullitt.
"The 2008 Mustang Bullitt delivers balanced performance," said Paul Randle, chief engineer. "Comfort is not compromised for performance. Performance is on demand. You can easily take Bullitt from the track to the street and back onto the track with confidence."
The pakes also have been improved versus the base Mustang GT's. More aggressive front pads were developed specifically for Bullitt and improve fade resistance and pedal feel.
The 2008 Mustang Bullitt wears unique cast-aluminum Euroflange wheels, offering a modern twist on the original movie car. The Dark Argent Gray spokes feature a satin finish, while a pight-machined lip completes the look. Calipers are colored to match the wheel. The wheels are wrapped in the same P235/50ZR 18 BF Goodrich g-Force T/A KDWS tires used on Mustangs at the Ford Racing High Performance Driving School at Miller Motorsports Park in Utah.

The built in depreciation for a car like that isn't $30k. Depending on the mileage of the car a year from now it will probably only depreciate about 30-40%. Now if you add in the dealer mark-up to the MSRP then you might be looking at $30k after a year. Dealers are *******.... ;-)

Anyways, you're wondering about the car becoming a collector car in the future? What old school Mustang isn't a collector car right now? Anyways, what car won't be a collectable in the future? At the rate oil is shooting up and everything else we'll all have to start going back to original horsepower (i.e. horses).

ALL Mustangs, with the possible exception of the Mustang II are potential collector's items. Try finding a decent '79-'93....even minus motor for low bucks now. I've got a beat up '92 2300/automatic Notchback with a tacky unibody but a super drivetrain that I'd like to swap into a solid car right now. These cars are rapidly becoming the '57 Chevys of the Y2K era, but who would've known back then? Conversely, there is no telling what will or won't be a collector's item in the future. The 'Foxstangs are hot but clean '88-'92 Lincoln MK VII LSCs with the exact same 5.0 HO motor and drivetrain, sport suspension, quick ratio steering and are an all around nicer cruiser sell for pennies on the buck.

As for this paying over sticker, this began with the '76 Caddie Eldorado ragtop ( the 'last' convertible) and the '78 Indy Pace Car Corvette. Many of both were bought and garaged on speculation that they'd appreciate greatly over the next 5 years. They didn't and few sell for over sticker (except at B-J) 30 years later.

Re: I Just Ordered The " 2008 Bullitt Mustang "

I went to the local Ford dealer about a month ago and there was a new GT500 in the driveway that a customer had bought a week before. I was chatting with the sales manager and asked about the latest Snake. I asked him what the price was on one and he said they had a yellow one getting prepped with a price of $69,000, I asked what sticker was and he said $49,000. When I asked what options you got for $20K he stated Carroll Shelby's name..... amazing I can guarantee ole Shell don't get a penny of that $20k

Re: I Just Ordered The " 2008 Bullitt Mustang "

A $20K mark up is just criminal. Even more criminal was the $270K some guy I met said he paid for a GT Ford. I have to assume sales tax and all future DMV costs will be based on that inflated price too.
