It's all good. There is so much BS on the web about the whole muscle car era. I grew up in the 70's and graduated from high school in the early 80's so I grew up worshipping the cars my cousins and older brother drove. Up until a few moves ago, I still had an old Hot Rod mag that had pics of the King Cobra and the Super Spoiler and a short article about how these were going to take on the Daytona and the Superbird. I remember thinking that the front nose looked a lot like the nose of a 240z.

Re: obscure muscle

The most obscure muscle I have ever owned was the 65 Falcon Futura 4dr. 289 powered. I loved that car.

Re: obscure muscle

On that Winged Messenger site the part about the Cyclone SUPER Spoiler II the what look like Ford taken shots, that have the number plate in front of the car, that thing is sitting and lookin pretty on the ground! Man no doubt those things woulda killed in NASCAR epecially at Talladaga! I bet they coulda drafted like a mother! Too bad NASCAR started looking at safety(due to higher speeds of course); and why not have two brands push the envelope so everybody else had to figure out/use their brain to catch up...but who else was there to compete in anyways? (Cheevee who?)

The Cougar II was actually built on a Cobra chassis. A bit of trivia for you is that the Mustang was at one point going to called the Cougar. Joseph Oros original clay mockup actually has a Cougar logo in the grille ( facing the opposite way) Jaguar actually went after Ford for copyright infringement for the cat logo.

Also, one of the original concept cars for the now-called-Mustang was called a Torino.

Re: obscure muscle

Wow.... I really really want that 1970 Cougar "El Gato" on that "Winged Messenger" site.

....And damn, why have I never seen that 2000 Cougar Eliminator? 300hp out of a V6. That's what we need nowadays....
