obscure muscle

Any other examples of speedy cars that have been forgotten or get overlooked?

Re: obscure muscle

Very nice Capri....

I've always had a soft spot for Mustang II's. If you do them right then they can look almost as good as any Mustang.... The ground effects and spoiler make that car look badass....

And who forgot about the Turbo Trans Am? I still love that car. I just wish I could afford one....

Re: obscure muscle

The '88-'92 Lincoln MK VIIs as I've previously mentioned, the '76-76 Torinos with the 460 police package, the Formula 400 Firebirds...I had one with a 2bbl carb that ripped! and even the fullsized '70 XL with the 429 high compression engine option come to mind. In this age of smaller cars with small cube high tech EFI engines, I don't think that you younger gus know how strong the late '60s fullsized cars with high compression big blocks were.

Re: obscure muscle

Back in the Mid-70's I briefly owned a 70 T-Bird with a 429. That SOB ran like an accosted ape. Right after that I had 72 LTD Country Squire Wagon with a 429 and it was a dog compared to the T-Bird. They knocked the compression down.

Re: obscure muscle

Along Torino lines I would add the Montego GT, nice looking car and rare.

1984/85 LTD LX and in Canada the matching Mercury Marquis LTS. Fox chassis cars with 5.0 CFI in them. Smoked a few Crapmaro's in my LTD!

Re: obscure muscle

While not a Ford, I had one of these about 15 years ago and was one of my favorite cars ever.

1965 Buick Gran Sport.

I know, Buick and fast don't usually go together. But the '65 was a mid year option based on the Skylark so it was about the same size as the '65 Olds' 442 and '65 GTO. It didn't have it's own VIN code for the GS in '65 so insurance was dirt cheap.

401 cubes, 441 lb ft of torque at 3700 rpm, 4 speed, posi, factory tach, buckets, available dual quad and tri power from the dealer, these Buicks were bad news. I could get on any freeway on ramp at 60 mph, and then nail second gear and really get merged with the flow of traffic. And nobody knew what it was. Mine was called called a Malibu on more than one occasion.

I miss the Buick as much as any of my former Fords.

"OBSCURE MUSCLE"

Whew! Gotta tell ya, I was expecting something else under that topic. I was actually hoping that there wasn't going to be any pics posted.

But seriously, I have always thought that early 70's Cougars were cool, right inbetween that Pony body of the 60's and the land-yacht body of the late 70's.

Re: obscure muscle

The 69/70s Cyclone Spoiler's has kinda grown on me...i mean you could get one with a 429SCJ! Drag Pak goodies! Heres a rare '70 Cyclone Spoiler II with nose cone. Merc made 500 or so of these with the big schnoz to get into NASCAR to compete against the Daytonas and Superbirds.....A lil more apealing than those cars, also!

PS--Take a look at the van in the background of the second pic!!!
