Sears COMPUCARVE Machine

I am looking at dropping $1800.00 on picking up the Sears Compucarve machine.

Craftsman CompuCarve Computer-Controlled Compact Woodworking Machine - Model 21754 at Sears.com

I know the vendor that makes these things, and it is the same price from them, but decided to use the sears brand name, since folks would know this machine better then the OEM.

Does anyone on this forum use it, and if so, I have heard stories about the "Z" Axis breaking and sears putting up a huge fuss over repairs on it.

This was a couple of years ago, and I want to know if the machines have matured and are more reliable now....

Anyone have any comments on these buggers? I plan on using it to make a custom wooden dashboard for my 66, and some other projects around the home. I plan on making an entire set of cabinents for the kitchen, which should more then 3 times pay for itself if I do.

Re: Sears COMPUCARVE Machine

I'd personally wouldn't buy anything from Sears anymore except the hand tools. Too many things I've used from them lately are just awful. The wheels on the new lawn mowers bend very easily (so much so I bent one) so know I'm using wheels from an old Sears mower from 8 years ago. Their jacks are a joke. Their new weed wackers are not deigned for anyone 6' or taller and you can't get one w/o a clutch anymore. Their leaf blowers are junk. I can go on how bad they have become in the past couple of years. If I were you, I'd get a real CNC machine. I know someone who got one for $500 and spent very little to fix it.

YA BUT...... I have always wanted a real wood dashboard.

About the CNC Machines, I have also been eyeing those machines too. I am a wiz with Autocad, and can make DXF files easily.

K2 CNC Machines

I have been looking at this one from KN2, it is about $2500.00 without the rotory tool. But not sure how to set it up for computer control. Not sure how indexing exactly works either.

I agree about sears crap, just so happens I do have a need, and $3000.00 for a home CNC that I only have less then 2 years of use for is a bit pricey.

Re: Sears COMPUCARVE Machine

I HATE HATE HATE Sears... if you read my recent rant I eluded to this. After first refusing to accept craftsman hand tools for replacement on 2 separate occasions then a MAJOR freezer problem I swore off of them. I ordered a valve spring compressor yesterday ONLY after they had the best price. This is the first time in 7 years I have bought ANYTHING from Sears... I avoid them like the plague because of CRAPPY customer service.

Well, that may only work if I call it a "machine" instead of a "tool".

Selling a machine is easy.

I could never give away, or sell any of my tools, I have tools that are 30 years old in my box, except the ones I lost and replaced.

I want your first oak RPM intake with the black maple stain and gloss finish. Where ever there is a knot..just put in a vacuum fitting. I will keep some hot dogs in the trunk in case of a back fire.
