Made my first passes today..

HI
Made my first passes today with the truck.. only got to make two runs..
Truck seamed to lose it at the 1/8 power dropped off going throu the traps at about 4,000 RPM's Shifting at around 3,800 - 4000. turning a 14.750 first run.
R/T...... .419
60'...... 2.220
330..... 6.210
1/8...... 9.498
MPH............ 74.72
1000.... 12.345
1.4 ...... 14.750
MPH ........... 93.64

Timing was set at 12* stactic no vacuum advance the total is about 32* in about 3,000 to 3,500.
Second run sucked big donky doo.... I forgot that my dizzy has a tendency to slip and it crapped out and I only ran a 15.622 @91.82 and lost to a poopy 69 camaro w/396 that only turned a 15.111 @96.35
The timing had slipped to about 0* after that first run... GURRRRR I got one of those cheap little clamps holding it I need to get a real guy one for those big TQ'ers.
Maybe thats why it seamed to not pull so good at the top end the timing was slipping already..
Could that have been the prob.. OR I was thinking a bigger carb. I'm only running a 750 maybe an 850 would be better. any Ideas well help..
Thanks
Tim

Re: Made my first passes today..

Some details about the vehicle and engine would be helpful.

OH
I'm running a 466
D'3 heads slight porting
RPM intake
750 carb edel.
Roller tip rockers
Flat top pistons.
.516 in .543 exh. cam.
3.50 rear gears Detrot tru track 9"
Hooker headers duels out H pipe
rebuilt C6
truck is about 4,500 lbs.

I'm hoping for low 14's or high 13's
I was leaving on the last amber staging shallow with RPM at 1,000 the first time with a .419 RT and 1,500 RPM last time with RT was .3 something. didn't have any tire spin to speak of and didn't seam to bog.. Next time I go I'll have more time to test and play with the timing

Re: Made my first passes today..

A bigger carb might help..What kind of fuel pump are you running?..Float levels good?..Just trying to figure out why its laying down at 4000rpms..As a comparison here is one of my times from my old 1982 F-100 with a totally stock 69 429 thunderjet(headers and 750 holley)..The truck had a stock C-6 and an open 2.75 rear end
60ft--2.34
1/4---15.36
mph---91.27

I later discovered I had a really bad vacuum leak so it must have been pretty lean during that run.

Holly Blue
I'm thinking it was the timing slipping.
