Re: Your first car
1971--The first driveable car was a 51' Chevy 2 door fleetline (fastback) with a 3 speed on the column. I got it for free with a blown motor and I had a friend that had another 51' with a good 235 6 cylinder motor and a crappy body. I bought his for the grand sum of $10. Dad did the swap and I was in heaven. He was a diehard Chevy guy in those days, but passed away a couple of years ago as a Ford guy (I wonder where he got that from?)
During hurricane Agnes in 72' I blew up the motor (it was using lots of oil by then) and never found a good replacement. This opened up the door for my first of many, many Mustangs--a basic 66' 6 cylinder, 3 speed candy apple coupe. That thing was a chick magnet even back in 1972.

Re: Your first car
Guess I'm one of the "Older" ones here.
It was in 1964 and my father bought me a 1952 Ford Sunliner. Which for the younger crowd, it was a rag top. Flathead V-8 and Ford-a-matic. It didn't run and was towed to our house.
I rebuilt the engine "twice". First time I made all the mistakes and had to redo it. Changed the auto to stick shift. Added Bar grille, Elderbrock cyl. head, Isky 3/4 race cam, adjustable "Johnson" lifters and three carbs. Oh yeah, dual exhaust, glass paks and scavanger pipes. Redid the interior with seat covers and made the door panels. Took me over one year to make it run where it was drivable.
Learned alot on that car. Nosed and decked it and my dad painted it in our garage.

Re: Your first car
1988 it was a 71 Mercury Montego MX (generic cyclone) 302-2v. Wish I kept it.

Re: Your first car
What the hell? All of you had pretty nice, or at least cool, cars for your firsts.... Mine was a 1991 Chevy Corsica, teal, with a 3.1.... It got me around and eventually I "accidently" blew a piston....

Nice? Cool? You know, in 1983 my Challenger was "OK" to me and most of my buddies but it was a beater with a blown diff, tired motor and a trashed interior. The Custom 500 was a big ol icebox white tank with bad rings and in need of a valve job and a tranny overhaul. None of us thought we had cool cars. We all wanted the new 84 Vette or a 83 Mustang GT.

Re: Your first car
My first car wasn't really a car at all, It was a 1974 Chevrolet vega- I got it in 1984 and the guy had totally rebuilt the motor. I paid 450.00 for this load of poo.... as im driving home i'm thinkin' "A 10 year old car in mint condition that needed a rebuilt engine, I wonder why it needed the new motor,it has very low miles on it ? " Long story short, I did an oil change and did a complete tune-up and found out that " All vegas idle like that" I quickly sold it and bought a 1965 mustang..... WHEW, close one-

Re: Your first car
In another recent post I talk about my 1967 Mustang as being a first or at least hinted at it, but my real frist car was a 1965 Mustang Coupe with a 289 automatic. I don't talk about this car too much because, as a punk kid, I totaled it in less than a year of owning it (bounced it off another car and into some trees after school). This was not forgotten the next day at school as everyone wanted to remind me of it.

Re: Your first car
It was 1975,My Moms 1967 Falcon Sports Coupe {Wish I still had it} well she wanted it back,I just started being the pizza man, they come one night telling me they saw a Ford with HOOD ALARMS??? [locking hood pins!]. It sounded like a Mustang, take mom to see a car in the hood, she says ya,like that one.Turns out it's a 1967 stang, new paint, rebuilt motor, new interior. $900 Like I said just started working so I had no real say about it. They say it's too much!! what a kick in the you know where! Then to make it a lot worse, the 1970 charger r/t 440 6pack that we saw that same night that I gave them the number as a joke it turns out that they call the guy, comes with what I said plus leather inside, lime green outside, and a extra set of mag wheels and tires. They talk them down to $750 from $1200!! NOW this is where it gets a lot worse!! We get the car, bring it home after I do a 20mph punch and throws me back from the hp!! OMG!! we get home, they come up the drive behind me,see the gas tank dripping and-----THEY MADE ME TAKE THE CAR BACK!!! even after I told them I could fix it! Had it for a 1/2 hour!! Then I wind up with a 71 Pinto! I NEED A DRINK!!
