Re: What's keeping me from working on my GAL

The more money spent on this the less I have for the Gal... This is my 17 year olds car and he is on my insurance.......The 3800 is gonna be PLENTY for him for now LOL not to mention I got the 3800 with 87,000 miles, wiring harness, computer, and fuel pump for $200... all I had to do was pull it.

Re: What's keeping me from working on my GAL

You DON"T want the 3.4 twin cam X engine, you want the 3.4 E engine with the same externals as the 2.8 V6, but it sounds as if your son has his mind and your wallet made up
for him. Best of luck Bee! That 3.8 swap is gonna be a bear

Cool that you are helping your boy with his project.......NOT a good idea to use cinder blocks to hold up a car.

Re: What's keeping me from working on my GAL

I hear ya Sleeper.... Thats why I kept the hoist attached to the car. I had to remove one leg of the hoist to get the engine cradle out from under it. The jackstands on the blocks (NOT one of my better ideas...but what I had on hand) were mainly to assist in keeping things stable during the 5 minutes I got the cradle out from under it; then the leg went back on. The stands werent going to be high enough by themselves, and to move them forward only provided a pivot point on the car. The hoist was there as the main support in case something decided to shift or in a worst case scenario ...crumble.

I knew I would be safe because I didnt say "Hey Y'all.... watch this!!!" before pulling the cradle... But hey... the car's plastic... It'd be like getting a big Revell model dropped on your head. By the way... if you ever hear some Southern Boy say 'Hey Y'all... watch this!" you might want to look because it will usually be hilarious just before you call the ambulance.

Re: What's keeping me from working on my GAL

Naw.... what he NEEDS is a 302 powered Falcon or Fairlaine but NOOOOOOOOOO he has to have the GM throwaway stuff. My oldest went through a half doz pieces of mid 80s GM crap before we got him his ZX2 which lasted a couple years then was replaced with a Taurus which he has had ZERO issues with

Re: What's keeping me from working on my GAL

Bumble, my uncle is doing the same swap like I said previously, he gave me a web site that deals with this swap and he got his wiring harness and cpu done thru one of the members. Said it was reasonable too, the site is Fiero - Pontiac's Mid-Engine Sportscar
