What's keeping me from working on my GAL

Well I finally got the NON FORD Derge truck on the road and now my son's Perntiak needs a new engine...so we're swapping up from a 4 banger to a 3800 6-banger.......The wiring harness is going to prove to be a BEAR. ARRRRGH!!! I wants to work on my GAL and get her back on the road!

Is that one of them there Tin Innian Furros?

You're a braver man than me Charlie Brown. If my son came to me and said he owned one of those, let alone that it needed an engine, I'd kick him in the shins.

If that day should ever come do feel free to alert me so I can catch the next flight to your home with my paparazzi camera to get that on film. It will grant me a life time of laughs.

Re: What's keeping me from working on my GAL

Well, I wish these guys (and their boyfriends, lol!) the best of luck!

There's ALWAYS a bunch of stuff that's never accounted for that gets in the way. I HOPE these guys have fairly complete parts cars to work with!

I swapped a 460 into a 1973 Ford LTD that came with a 400 for my brother when I was in high school. I swear, for two engines that had the same bellhousing pattern, Ford made it as hard as possible to swap engines! Pretty much everything that could have been different... WAS. Were talking about silly things like throttle cables, etc. It's a GOOD THING the local junkyard had a parts car, or that thing may have NEVER gotten finished!

Good Luck!

Burn that damn car to the ground like the other 400,000 that GM made and get the boy a PROPER car, then go work on the Galaxie...

Re: What's keeping me from working on my GAL

Here's a thought for you. Forget the 3.8. The Fiero's came with a 2.8, so find a good (?)
donor car and a 3.4L from a Grand Am (same style block). Should be a bolt-in. Only problem will be the fuel injection/ecm. I believe it was speed density

Agree 100%. The only way to learn how to work on things is to actually do it. If you start doing all the -hard- work for him, you'll be doing it forever. Trust me on this. I see it all the time.

Good Luck!

Re: What's keeping me from working on my GAL

Oh yeah... he is out there with me... unfortunately I get to do the wiring on it. The computers are going to be a real bear. The kid has unusual tastes, that's for sure... This is his first car and he originally was looking at Opel GTs, Saab Sonnet IIIs, and the closest thing to a ford on his list was an XR4TI. Unfortunately we couldn't find anything he liked within a reasonable distance that I could drive home. Then he found the drastic plastic that is on its nose in the pic. I nursed the 4 banger along till it wouldn't be nursed any more. The rings gave way and it was blowing all the compression into the bottom of the block and oil out every available orifice. When I get done with this swap I will be done with GMs...period.... and after the truck tranny episode I am going to give Mopar the boot too unless I find a 70 roadrunner, 68 Charger, or a 73 Cuda for $500 (sheesh... I am starting to sound like FE) I should have my motorcycle back on the road within the next week so that will be one more monkey off my back.

Lees6t we looked at the twin dual cam 3.4 (another GM name game flub-up its either a single or dual overhead cam...twin dual....gimmie a break). The local yard had several but none were in a condition that I wanted to use it. He wanted the supercharged 3800....not happenin on my insurance.
