Re: shoot me --just shoot me
I have a few stories...
I had just got done rebuilding the motor for my '98 Saturn earlier this year, and had bought the car not running. I get everything together, lower the motor back in to the car (which is a PITA as part of it sits UNDER the firewall, so you have to kinda tilt it in and lower which is really hard with only one person), bolt everything back up and climb in to start it. I hit it, you hear the starter, but it does not sound good. I try a few more times.. Damn it, the starter is bad. I did not want to spend anymore money on the car, so instead of buying a new part I drove to the local parts yard and took a starter off a Saturn. Tested it in the yard and it seemed to work. Go back home, install the "new" starter, climb in the car and turn the key. Same sound. WTF!?! I start running through everything in my head... I can crank the engine over by the crank pulley, so it is not seized... Then it hits me... I climb under the car and remove the flexplate access cover... DAMN IT!!! I installed the flexplate backwards (it installs the opposite way that my Regal's does). Had to pull the motor back out and flip it around
Another story... Working on my current '98 Regal turbo project, I had to run an oil return line to the oil pan. Bought the fitting and had it welded in, installed the motor. Worked on other things... Then got to the point I was ready to throw on the starter. I start to bolt it up and start cussing. I installed the oil return bung right behind the starter, I can either have an oil return or a starter, not both. Had a new pan and bung ordered that night.
