"conspiracy therory"

I finaly figured it out! after seeing many car adds on the t.v. that are offering gas incentives and everyone is advertising 30+mpg cars. jeep is offering gas a $2.99 gallon for the next three years when gas has nearly doubled in the last year. So here goes, the big three have been in the red with talks of bankruptcey do to the decline in new car sales. the tree huggers have been trying to kill all the gas guzzlers for years, with this comes the push for alternitive fuel. The advent of alternitive fuel comes the end to those greedy bastard oil companies. So our fearless leaders who we voted to represent us are looking out for big business and speacial interest groups as usual. Many of them or looking out for their own best interest because as I said before they generally have large holdings in big businees and realy do not care about you and I. The oil companies are not producing anymore oil than they did 20 years ago, they know sooner or later there will be less and less demand for gas due to alternitive fuel,so they jack up the price so they can go out in style. The goverment is not doing anything to help(don't say they can't regulate it because corn prices and utilities have been regulated for years, remember"ma bell")because the higher gas prices are driving people to, DAH DA, buy new cars that get better MPG. which is bailing out the automakers. Not to mention they are letting our steel fly out of this country at an alarming rate which is jacking up scrap to a ridiculous high, which has caused a "used beater car to be worth more as junk then as a operational vehicle. this again leads to the sale of more new cars that get better milage which causes a decline in gas sales, All of this makes the tree huggers happy which leads to more contributions to our fearless leaders!!!!!

347: You need to send this stuff to the New York Times. You'll reach a much larger audience.

Re: "conspiracy therory"

I don't like the high gas prices either...but I've got to tell you - I am tired of hearing about the big bad oil companies. They run a good business make money for their shareholders, employ people, pay benefits, 401K plans, live up their obligations on retirees..etc. etc. Real bad people...meanwhile the auto companies, airlines, newspapers, etc....have probably laid off 500,000 people, some with retirement plans now worth ZERO. Think about that..that is a lot bigger than many of the cities in which we live. Run a bad business - poor guys - they are victims - Run a good business - bad greedy people...whatever.

Am I Biased - YES. I have worked in the petroleum business (not gas and oil directly) for most of my adult life. We are lucky gas doesn't cost a lot more. Since we can drill for it here (USA) - BIG OIL has to find it somewhere else, dig it out of the ground, ship half way around the world, refine it (several times), and ship to your corner station so you can fill up 24/7 - all for less than the cost of a gallon of milk. Nobody cared about BIG OIL making next to zero profit on fuel when oil was less than $25 per barrel. Even now refining margins suck. How many of you business owners would get out of bed if you knew your profit margin was 10%? The profits are huge because the number are huge - that is all. BIG OIL is just lucky - they haven't done anything different from the $25 days - its just the stuff coming out of the pipe is now worth $130+ vs. $25 - that is where the profit comes from - not fuel. I now step off my soapbox.

347, I think you're on to something. The pinkos have been wanting us to get rid of our old, inexpensive, poluting clunkers for a long time. Now, as you said, they're worth more as scrap than they are as functional rides. They want us to buy new cars, scrap our old ones to send to China to come back as 'new' products.

Re: "conspiracy therory"

First off 40k for a house or are you talking trailer I don't mean to offend but even if I lived 60 miles outside of my city a normal house is still 150k but then I have a 120 mile commute to work everyday unless you live in an area that has no type of industry and therefore no one wants to live there I cant see houses going for 40k in a semi populated area.

As far as oil company profits go yeah they only get 10% back the other day I was reading, some company made like 32 billion but it cost them 250+ billion every year to operate so yeah at the end of spending 250 billion they made 282 billion not bad but compared to other markets it really really sucks.

I dont mean to defend the oil companies they are still douche bags and will try to screw people at every chance they get

Also, I know I may sound like a HUGE ****head here but maybe its because I am alot younger and see things differently.

I don't have a "career" and I don't plan on having one because you can get fired or laid off at the drop of a hat, but guess what aside from government jobs where they take care of you after your 20+ years, I would never expect in a million years some private or public company to take care of me, and I think more and more people are realizing that they wont keep doing it, I gotta tell ya the day of working for 20+ years and getting a retirement package is over for the most part.

And if anyone says well if you don't want to get fired go union well guess what all the people at the auto companies are union, and I think its part of the problem.

Here is more of my required anti union propaganda
detnews.com | Webvideo | Ford's most advanced assembly plant operates in rural Brazil
If you want to check it out more do some searching online, there were other people who went more in depth about the troubles of getting plants like this built.

And no I don't think ford is big and bad for firing people nor is GM they are doing what they have to do in tough times to keep up, granted it would be nice if they made cars that didn't suck we cant have it all.

Also while I can see the idea of unions why is it fair for them to always demand more money year after year for not getting any better at their job or allowing ford to build a new plant and save money by not having to employ as many people, therefore by making it easier to pay them more the next time they want more money.

I gave 37,000 for my 3 bedroom HOUSE and the 1/2 acre of land it sits on. I drive 40 miles (round trip) a day to where I work. I live 60 miles from Oklahoma city, Oklahoma, whick is the largest city in the state. As far as industry is concerned........Im right smack in the middle of the oil fields. There are more trucking, steel, electronics and building companies here than you can shake a stick at. In most cases, if you cant see something someone else can, you are either blind or not looking.
