question on FE #2

fired rebuilt motor [352]-- when i rebuilt it i put in a new dist.-- vac can hooked to p[orted vac fitting--

prob- when i give it the least amount of gas just off idle -- i have a light skip-

if i unhook the vac advance line it runs like a scared rabbit---

the question --could there be a vac leak in the vac advance canaster??--

fyinfo-- i havent hooked a timeing light to it yet--so i dont know if the vac cannaster is working --

and why does it run so good with the vac advance unhooked--coming off idle and up into the rpms--

thanks guys---------------and ladys

Re: question on FE #2

Sounds like you have the initial timing too high & when you give it a little gas the vacuum cannister advances it even higher.

Re: question on FE #2

well i took time -- set timeing-- still have a skip when i hook up vac hose to dist.-- if i leave it unhooked it runs great-- no skip -no hesatation on the throttle-

i have agut feeling its a vac leak in the vac advance -it skips like a vac leak--
i hate to not have the vac hooked up-- it should work --i sapose i could change it out from another dist>-

Re: question on FE #2

what kind of power you expecting from this build?

Ive got a truck with a 352, build as long way off, but undecided if were gonna build it or a 460.

Re: question on FE #2

Re: question on FE #2

You need to check the cannister to see if it will hold a vacuum. If it does, remove the dist. cap and while actuating the cannister with a vacuum pump or your mouth, watch for binding in the breaker plates.

Re: question on FE #2

holds vac-- but the plate only will move about 3/16 of an inch--

kultulz-- what i dont understand is -- it runs so good with the vac unhooked-

with the timeing light hooked up -give it fuel and you can watch it it advance. hose un hooked-

352 rebuilt -- new dist- when hooked to ported vac on carb-- idels good -- bring it off idle and i get a skip-- un hook vac canaster --give it fuel -- no skip--

timeing set at 10 drg befor -- help
