Cal from what I heard was that they didn't seal the inner frame.....they didn't do that for 5 years.

Re: Toyota to buy back rusted Tacomas
Yeah I gotta say it is nice that they are buying it back but what no one posted is they are buying them back for 50% more then then what they are worth which is even cooler.
Anyways I hope ford comes through their tough time and starts making some appealing vehicles for more people, also when mentioning this recall, ford has had the problems with the spark plug thing for years and many members on this board have been affected.

I'm not sure what the plug problem is. I've owned five modular engine Fords & never had a plug problem. Mine were '99 4.6, '01 4.6, '04 4.6, '06 5.4 & '07 4.6.

Guess I've been lucky. Only thing in the yard now modular is the son's '03 Mach 1 and we just changed the plugs last week.

Re: Toyota to buy back rusted Tacomas
the old problem was 5.4 2 v heads had like 3 threads- plugs would blow out without warning, 3k repair cost...new problem is 05~late 07 3v heads had plugs that cant be removed without snapping off the tack welded extension tube in the head- and it sounds like at best if they do come out the head threads are squealling/galling the whole way out, hopefully replaced plugs wont have blow out issues, and hopefully no metal shavings are falling in when you loosen them up...they fixed the 3v heads by a new design, they fixed the 5,4 2v by adding to the casting, adding a few more threads. just sucks as these are not 'normal' or 'expected' types of mechanical failure, but just examples of poor engineering.

Re: Toyota to buy back rusted Tacomas
If I had to choose between a plug and a frame...I'd go with the plug. There is NO car company with out there problems.
