Re: Toyota to buy back rusted Tacomas
Bob: The damage I'm looking at on a '95 Tacoma has to be salt damage. Either caused by driving down the beach or road salt up north. I've seen many Corvettes at Myrtle beach look the same way on the underside after only three to five years.

Re: Toyota to buy back rusted Tacomas
I wonder how many miles are on the trucks? The article doesn't mention that at all. I know that people who seriously use thier vehicles rack up alot (example my dads 02 silverado with 230,000). And yeah what about road conditions like salt, i'm pretty sure those sort of things should void the warranty but whatever I don't have the whole story and theres always somebody who feels cheated in these things.
can't believe that the people who already junked thier cars want the same as those who haven't. First off they should have gotten some money for junking the car (note some) so why would they get full amount? Second when they don't own it anymore they don't have a claim.

Re: Toyota to buy back rusted Tacomas
At least Toyota is doing something. I can't imagine Ford or GM ever buying back anything. Not even to help with the spark plugs that fly out of the head.
My wife's sister had to trade their 2003 GM pickup because it wouldn't pass inspection. Frame was shot.
I doubt very seriously that my 2000 F150 is going to make it two more years. The body started rusting along with everything underneath. It has 59K miles on it and runs like crap. It's been one thing after another.
But Dear....I love my Ford pickup.

Re: Toyota to buy back rusted Tacomas
I'm with you retyler. Ford is trying to keep their head above water but feel that some of what is putting them under is thier lack of support of the vehicles after the sale. You got it, it's your problem cause this and this and this is owner fault and not covered under warranty. Not to mention we fixed that problem in '04 that didn't exist in the first place.
We love our truck also but durned if I'd want to buy another one after our first experience with a new Ford truck. It's our second new vehicle, our first a Hyundai and the little can never gave us a bit of trouble. They were the only ones that would sell us a new car at the time. We started out ford hunting and got nowhere til the Hyundai dealer.
Who knows, 10 yrs down the road they might do a recall. They are waiting for all the trucks and others with plug problems to be in the junkyards so it won't cost them so much in returns. That's just my opinion btw.
I do agree though that if someone had a Toyo and junked it they shouldn't be getting money for something they already disposed of.
One thing for sure, I bet it boosts thier sales in some way or other if they stand behind thier vehicles like that.

Re: Toyota to buy back rusted Tacomas
The Japanese manufacturer is sitting on piles of cash profit thanks to politicians who allowed our economy and our industry to be raped by transnational banks and corporations. The only reason Ford and other American companies try to weasel out of making good on flawed product is because they simply don't have the cash anymore to absorb warranty loss, and even worse, to engineer better products. From the start, this free trade and globalization was a scam to move American capital and industry out of this country to other countries where labor is cheaper, laws are more slack, and taxes are lower, only to turn around and sell us back regurgitated products and further suck our consumer wealth back over seas to their greedy little hands.
I say it's time to start smashing Japanese cars again.
And get back to some serious Union organizing.
Or else, you can kiss America goodbye.

Re: Toyota to buy back rusted Tacomas
Firstly, to all of you who are falling on the sword for Toyota, the Japanese are famous for not admitting to faulty product. Do you think that they are so superior that their product does not fail? Then why are the top executives of Toyota, in Japan, looking at life sentences for failure to issue a recall on a steering component that was linked to the direct cause of a fatal accident involving a family in Japan? Look it up if you don't believe me. Or how about the fact the Toyota recalled more vehicle in the US last year than they sold? As for the Fords that always fall apart, I have owned over 40 Fords in my life and I have yet to get the 'Junker" or "Lemon" the all the Jap lovers talk about. I had a 2000 F150 4X4 that I put 240,000 on and sold it to a freind that drove it to 340,000, then sold it to a kid who is still driving it. It really ticks me off when people say things like,"oh my Ford is always in the shop", or " I fixed this and that and that, then i bought whatever and never had any problems", I say BS. What colour are your glasses in your world?

Re: Toyota to buy back rusted Tacomas
I know that Toyota does have a good process improvement plan, as I have studied it at a previous job. But then again, my father has owned Fords his whole life, including (or mostly) trucks and he did not really have a problem with any of them. I myself have owned two 79's, an 82(did go thru a lot of auto trannys in that one) and my 04 F-150 (not heritage)I have not had any trouble. I do wash the salt off it once a week as here in upstate NY the union boys are out salting every time the wind blows. As far as the Toyota trucks goes: my former next door neighbor had an older one and he replaced the frame on it twice in the time I knew him. He said it was a great reliable truck, but I myself aint much for replacing the frame every few years.
