Re: Iron Powder
I used to go to the local machine shop and clean their surface grinder. Lots of find dust, it was free, and they paid me to clean the machine once a week.
Might be worth a try

Re: Iron Powder
My machine shop only has HUGE chunks compared to flour..
My brake lathe as stuff about the size of salt grains. WAYYYY huger than flour, measureable in thousandths, not microns..

Re: Iron Powder
You might actually try and look at arts and craft supply stores. I am a sculptor, and a lot of the time we cast things in resins since actual metal castings are far more $$$$$, and to make them look like metal we add metal powder to the resins which gives them the same visual properties as the actual metal. I am only familiar with bronze, aluminum, and copper, but I'm sure there has to be iron powder somewhere in there. The grain size is pretty small, way smaller than anything I've ever seen at a machine or brake shop, so I figure it's worth a shot.
Other than getting the powder directly from an industrial manufacturer, the only brand I can think of off the top of my head is called Mona Lisa Mixing Metal Powder.
I hope this helps....

Re: Iron Powder
Ebay is probably a good bet. I've bought aluminum powder there, as well as other chemicals.

Re: Iron Powder
You can try a place that sells laboratory supplies since I know in all of the Chemistry classes that I took, you can get Iron from shavings to fine powder.

Re: Iron Powder
the flywheel grinders used in most autosupply stores that do flywheel resurfacing is really really fine like flower. i am sure they will let you have it for free its a dirty job to clean the fill tanks, its under the machine and usually wet and caked but you could let it sit in a baking pan in the sun and then sift it out.
