AINT NO WAY I'M PAYING $6000.00 for a paint job unless it came with a free car.Gary if junk is $300 a ton and that 302 ways 400lbs you could get $60.oo out of it for scrap.If it were me I would stick it in a corner and one day it will be worth much more.

WEll $6k for a paint job is fair. I see a lot of people that say I will do the body work myself and just have the guy shoot it. That is assuming you can do the bodywork, for those that can't $6k is reasonable. I am going to go to the community college here and for the $245 for the class and additional $40 for shop materials, you get to paint your project. You have to supply the materials. So that puts my paint job right about $1k. I have full use of their tools (up to date) full use of the their booth... Access to professional help. Just have to get the old Torino, inspected, regisitered, insured and stripped down to where I can drive it but stripped. Going to do this in the fall.

Culcuhain, and ANY other disbelievers: 6K is TOOOOOO MUCH for painting a car, unless there is EXTENSIVE body work to be done in conjunction with said job!
Supplies to paint a car from sctatch normally run from $900 to $1,200 bucks depending on the name brand of paint that you use (Some paint can exceed $800 per gallon, I use Nason and Omni which run's under $150 per gallon and is AS good if applied properly)

Somebody... {BLUEOVAL shal not be named here....hehehe} stated in another post a day or so ago that PAINTERS DO fetch $75 bucks per hour and more... That is all fine and dandy but THOSE PAINTERS ONLY paint the car, they spend 4 HOURS painting not 40 hours like the $45 dollar per hour body men get...

I think that people that faze out man and pocket body shops and become insurance whores are... are.... ooooh I can't even stand thinking about them shops

P.S. I just put in an ESTIMATE to do the Frame and Floor Pans and full suspension restoration and rustproofing for a 76 Grand Torino, I estimated that $10K to $12K would get his frame done and drivetrain restored and the complete floor pan replacement (essentially the total undersides are whipped full of holes and weak spots), this is practically everything he needs to do but the external body and paint and the interior. There is NO WAY that it would take another $6 to $10,000 dollars to PAINT the car UNESS you added tyeh cost of replacing the interior in to that!

Painters make more money than body guys because..... they can turn a car around faster than a body guy. I paid only $104 plus a $70 book and a $30 parking permit to learn to paint and repair paint jobs, the course lasted 17 or 18 weeks, now if I want I pay $50 to use the booth and equipment, supplies are not covered but you get them at discount.

and hence I no pay someone to do what I can already do, especially at those prices. But I'll paint your car for you and I'll do it for 1/2 price
