quoted for truth, i'd rather have a roush stang then a shelby these days. Shelby was good back in the sixties but after sixty six it started becoming more about the look then the performance, yeah they still performed but they weren't special.
Nowadays i'd say shelby is highly overrated.

I'm guessing you haven't priced one of those lately?

Re: Ford Brings Back The CobraJet
The Shelbys are about performance. Problem is it isn't in the same way anymore. The GT500 cars are SVT cars in which they are differentiated by what FRPP parts they have. As for the GT, that's just a joke. One can buy a run-of-the-mill GT, the FRPP Power Pack, FRPP Handling Pack, Hurst Shifter, and Shelby stripe kit and STILL have a home made Shelby GT for much less. What's worse is that's all the Shelby GT is. So, Shebly is about performance, it's just they got lazy.

dfree: I just look at differently than you do. I'm going to speak in the past tense as I haven't worked since 1-12-07 and would not be able to afford any cars such as these in retirement. Back in 1967 I made $5200.00 a year and I bought a new Pontiac GTO that year with no problems making the payments.
When I left my company I was making $62,000.00 a year and had no problem maintaining the payments on two $32,000.00 cars. For me the same reasoning goes for gasoline. At $5200.00 a year I paid 25.9 cents per gallon. At $62,000.00 per year I pay $4.00 a gallon. It all seems relative to me.

Re: Ford Brings Back The CobraJet
I have to agree the idea of an inexpensive stripped down street legal Cobrajet would be the best. Roll up windows, manual steering and (dare I say it)manual brakes, along with a naturally aspirated 5.4L (3 valve or 4 valve) of around 400 hp for 30-35K would actually have me interested in a new Mustang.
I can't stand all the heavy doodads new cars have. Absolutely makes me sick. I think somebody mentioned the new Challenger briefly moves the window down as you close the door and then puts it back up after it's closed so you don't get the little pressure pulse on your ears. Have we become such pansies that we can't close a farkin' door without whimpering. Maybe we should just stay inside and play racing video games instead of actually driving a real-life car.
The new Challenger really is beautiful, but also grotesquely big and heavy.
I think a new Mustang GT is in the 3500 lb range. Stripped down to say 3200 lbs and with 400 net hp instead of 300, it would be a blast.
Not sure where I'm going with this. Just rambling I guess. Sorry.

Re: Ford Brings Back The CobraJet
And furthermore,
in my day we push started our cars, uphill, and we almost died every few minutes of driving, 4 wheel manual drum brakes pulled left or right randomly, seat belts were for wussies, and we washed our faces with leaded gasoline..... and we liiiiiiiked it!

That little window trick was on my '07 GT/CS so I'm figuring the Ram engineers stole it from Ford who probably stole it from someone else. Concerning manual brakes, you can have them. I've read that the 2010 car will be 400 hp and a little lighter.

Nice But we could do with out the Automatic Rear view mirror, Power Leather seats, 500# Stereo System, Traction control, Remote keyless entry, and all those wonderful Electronic Gozmo's Ect......
They need to offer a striped down version at a rock bottom price.... ohhh wait a minute they don't make any money on the striped down ones... my bad
Lord forbid if they lost 500# of the curb weight and the fuel economy went up........

Re: Ford Brings Back The CobraJet
Sorry, but power steering and brakes are here to stay. Remember, modern muscle must also handle well, not just in a straight line, which is why the new Camaro and Challenger ride on a IRS, would also contributes to their "chub." However, w/ the big three back into the game, the market that will be left open is the strip down models, since so far, the concentration is on the higher-end models. All it takes is for one of them to come out w/ a Road Runner and the game is on. The question is if there's enough time thanks to CAFE and gas prices to bring on the second war.
