Re: Ford Fan Sites Attacked By Ford

An interesting point is that you can use a registered TM in a sentence, text, or description, but not in the name of your product or service. For example, HotLittlePickups.com, a site dedicated to Ford Ranger pickups, would not be in violation. But because they use the trademark in the title of their organization RangerStation, it is infringement of the trademark.

Too Greedy to realize free advertisement.
Sure is a 'great' way to treat the Ford faithful!

I'm not pretending to speak for them, but what makes you so sure they consider our use of their trademark as advertisement of their product in a way that they intended it to be used or marketed? It's their brand, shouldn't they have every right to control what their product means in the marketplace? I'm sure you would feel different if it was your brand being used and perhaps diluted or devalued by others? As for this obsession with calling them greedy, my god, they're losing money! That's not greedy. Exxon is greedy. Ford is just trying to make cars, pay their workers, and survive.

Re: Ford Fan Sites Attacked By Ford

Slow down everybody - appears that therangerstation admin was selling stickers with the Ford logo on it to help defray costs. Can't do that with a trademark. Big no-no. If so, then Legal did the right thing as much as I'd hate to say it. BUT - appears there will be some resolution worked out.

Digg - Ford suing fan websites

They are losing money because their companies are a failure, the way they have been doing business for the last 30+ years is a failure. Your trying to say that these companies are not greedy that's laughable. The car industry has tried to fight everything that could have been good about there company. They tried to fight putting seat belts in their cars back in the day, airbags, not to mention how atrocious the gas mileage on these cars are these days. All this was done because they HAD to not because they are good, they were forced too. Back in the 70's they could have went a different direction, can anyone say Toyota.
And then we have this example of what they are, stabbing the backs of their loyal customers. This makes me sick as it should every mustang owner. Give me a break!!!!!!! Let these companies die already stop giving them my hard earned money. I get paid half of what these people get paid to work my ass off, not use a drill to mount a motor and not break a sweet all day $50+ an hour to work on an assembly line. Don't give them a dime and let them file chapter 11, reorganise and pull their heads out their ass.

Re: Ford Fan Sites Attacked By Ford

ckelley had a good point. They may have overstepped the trademark bounds. Ford should be more lenient with their TM's. A lot of companies are using the TM's to Fords benefit. Ford Muscle and other comapnies and sites promote ford products. That is good for Ford.

Ford should charge them a nominal fee, and have them sign an agreement where Ford can take action if the website or company does something that damages the trademark.
