As long as you know where to look.
NASCAR Race Engines - Ford FR9 - Hot Rod Magazine
Didn't GM make a big deal about "reverse cooling" on the LS series engines?

Re: Coyote FR9
This new engine was in the car that won Talledega on Sunday, from what I heard the commentators say. It must be working OK.

I was fortunate enough to be there for the race. Every car that led for the first 30 or so laps was pushed there by a Ford. Great showing for the Ford boys.

Re: Coyote FR9
Kinda makes me laugh how toyotas "purpose built" nascar motor gives them an advantage over fords previous motor. If any of ya guys saw a toyota nascar motor in person you'd instantly think that it was a 351 cleveland. When i went to a drift event for work there was a Scion TC with a toyota nascar motor in it, damn thing has the distributor right in front (and yeah its a toyota motor with a distributor, name one in the last fifteen years that had an oldschool distributor) edelbrock intake manifold, pented valve covers. Nascars still using dinosaur technology compared to the rest of the world and the cleveland was an amazing motor in its day and still is one there was no disadvantage in the design.
The wierd part is i'm pretty sure i heard that the coyote was the engine going to be in the new mustangs and f150s. The reason i find that interesting is since overhead cam motors are outlawed in nascar last i heard it must be a pushrod *shrug*.

yep- pushrod...pics in the mag article show the lifterbores.
Ive never seen a 'toyota' nascar pic...willhave to look one up- bet youre right, they just copied a good design, seems the hallmark of Asian technological 'developments'...

Re: Coyote FR9
interesting...

"We told them to take a look around at the engines in the garage," Nascar R&D director Gary Nelson says. "We said, ?We're not going to tell you what valve angle to use, for example. But go smaller than the largest and larger than the smallest.'"
In other words, no thinking outside the box.
Trouble is, nobody knew the precise dimensions of that box. "So we had to reverse engineer the Chevy, Ford and Dodge engines," says Lee White, general manager of TRD. "We measured 3,000 block castings and 2,000 cylinder head castings for each one -- 15,000 total."

rest of that article here: Toyota Crashes Nascar Party | Popular Science
'reverse engineer'= 'copy others work because we have no clue yet where to start' IMO
I like toyotas racing performance acronym...TRD. is that toyota racing development, or just short for turd?
