Coyote FR9

Since 1991 Ford has been running engines at Nascar based on the 351 Cleveland & Windsor production engines. Starting next year Ford will be running a brand new engine dubbed Coyote FR9. Completely new block & internals. An all new design from the crankshaft up.Hopefully, if this new engine is successful, it will make its way into the street cars we all drive.

Re: Coyote FR9

Kinda takes the Stock Car out of NASCAR.... toyota took out the North American.... So now it should be called AR for Auto Roundyracing.

I wish they would go back to stock cars... They did 200mph in 1969 just fine....

Re: Coyote FR9

That would give an advantage to FOMOCO and that's a no no. Unless however they raced in 4 door front wheel drive V6 cars or the Mustangs and Camaros.

Wasn't the Coyote used back in the sixties in open wheel?

No advantage. GM & Toyota are already using new purpose built engines & Dodge is working on a new engine design. All of these engines have been approved by Nascar. Be assured though if Ford starts winning every race, Mr. France will make them detune. Kind of sucks that the Nascar powers to be won't let Ford do what it has always been capable of and that is to kick butt.

I thought it was a dedicated race engine. I don't think they have any intention of making it a mass produced engine.

Maybe not, just remembering that all the good stuff like 427's & 429's & even the Boss 302 came from a racing background.

Re: Coyote FR9

had a guy in at work today to balance some stuff- ex-racer, was telling me about the FR9- was the first I'd ever heard of it...

anyone seen numbers? bore/stroke/rod length?

rod:stroke ratio I'm curious to see...the only motors >400 Ive ever seen over 1.8:1 were the 426 mopar and 429 Ford, yet most modern day engine gurus like around 1.75...cant help but wonder if the lower rod angles need revisited, as the 426/429 both did pretty darn well

Yah know I had a magazine that had some details about dimensions for both the new dodge and ford, but I'll be damned I can't find it. IIRC bore was around 4.180 which is I think the max.

Re: Coyote FR9

The November issue of HOTROD had details about the FR9 engine and the new Dodge engine... Well, at least as many details as Ford and Dodge were willing to share. They were both very protective of the vital specs on the cylinder heads and such...

However, they did say that some of the technology and innovations will be filtered down to the aftermarket! Yay! So while the actual FR9 engine is a pure Roush/Yates race piece, stuff will eventually be available to all of us little peaople...

That's the one! I just can't find it when I need it.
