How much $$$ for a professional porting job?

I will bring the numbers home with me and post over the weekend, I think they topped out in the 260's at .550 or .600 lift. The exhaust port is the weak link, but it still proved to work pretty good. I think the port got about 10cc larger, but flow picked up like 50+ cfm so good flow for the work done.

That head has alot of potential and will be great for a smaller engine that wants rpm.

Ported Aussie head numbers:

lift. stock intake ported intake
.100 61 68
.200 123 137
.300 176 195
.400 198 240
.500 204 256
.550 206 261
.600 209 265

That's with stock intake valves, with a backcut, and 4 seat angles. I also did a chamber cut and lowered the guides a little.

Fixing to do a set of 427 lowriser heads for a customer, $400. dollar port job so you guys can see what a budget job looks like. Stock they flow for crap!

ou812,
Most all flow data ever provided is flow numbers on the head only including my own. How does the intake itself come to play in the picture? Is it not better to flow them together or is in understood that the head itself is the restrictor somehow? Or, do you need to get the best head flow and then trial and error with the intake?
Thanks,
[addsig]

Hello ou812,
Did you save exhaust numbers? I just wondered what the difference was between the stock factory and the ported. Thanks again for the time you took to answer.

Yeah I have the exhaust numbers, they picked up as well. I didn't bring them home but I believe they ended up in the 180's at .500-.600 lift. Since then I have found some more flow and with a pipe I get over 200 no problem.
Intakes will always drop flow, some more than others. But intake manifolds have a plenum, and therefore they "work" different than just the intake port.
So I dont flow with an intake unless I am looking for a problem cause if you try to port a head for good numbers with an intake on it, the ports will NOT work for $hit.
On intake manifolds, I use cross section, taper and plenum volume to choose and modify the right one.
I also lay the intake on the heads when we have the engine, and get the roof and floor angles of the intake to match the head...very very important.
End of next week I'll have before and after pics of that 427 head just for fun.
Thanks guys,
Brian

How much $$$ for a professional porting job?

Brian,
I am in the process of installing my A3 heads on a cleveland block. I have the a331 intake but is much smaller port than the A3 port. I recently acquired a 2991 intake which has been ported by Roush Racing and looks super and matches the A3 port! However, the 2991 will not work with the A3 head when the heads are on the engine because the 2991 was designed for the Yates (raised port), therefore there is a .250 interference in the roof and floor of the A3 and the 2991 intake. I can use it on a 9.5 block with the A3 heads, I think, because it will be .300 taller which will move the head port up .300.
Any way, how can I check the port angle in the head vs. the port angle in the intake? Thanks, Edwin
By the way, do you know of any other intake that will work with the A3?

I was talking to Art Frances today, and forgot to ask about intakes for the A3 head. If you can get a hold of him, he'd be a good one to ask.
He's trying to get me to go in halves with him on one of those really nice flow data flow benches...some guys
If you can't find one, maybe you could build a set of spacers for it??

Haven't forgoten those 427 pics and numbers, been real busy but I will post them by saturday.

Forgive my ignorance but who is Art Frances?
Spacers will not work, the intake port is too high for the A3's on the 9.2 block.
