What is the best stock head to get for a SBF?

I know there are so many possibilities out there to modify anything, but what I want to know is what is the best set of stock heads to put on a carbed 302 with a mild cam? I have heard 289's for increased combustion but then I've heard GT40P heads from Explorers work well too. ABout to go to a swap meet tomorrow and it would be nice to know in case I find something.

I think its the GT40 heads, either that or the early 351w 4bbl heads.

I haven't done this but been reading on other posts. The GT40s and 40Ps work well but the P head has issues with header choices bepending on body it goes in. Research it before you buy.

I liked the DOOE's i had with a port job done to them. The GT-40's are as good i am told. the GT-40p's are also good but can get into header problems. Not many around that work with them i am told.
I also had a set of E7TE's that i ported they were seat of the pants change to unported ones. Some guys install 1.90 intake valves also.

I had a set of home ported D5AE 351w castings that went 215 CFM @ .600 lift on the intake and IIRC, 188 on the exh at .600.

Went like stink on my old Mustang. Miss the car & the motor.

The D5s are identical to the C9's except the water ports are slightly different and the valves are smaller. Put you some 1.94/1.50's in there and clean up the ports a little and you'll have a "decent" set of iron heads. Still don't compare to aftermarket stuff, but not bad for Production Ford heads. I believe in '77 (D7 heads) they went to larger chambers and smaller ports. Same as the 302 heads from there on, from what I've seen. They're all junk compared to what you can get from the aftermarket though.

I had a set of DOOE heads that only flowed 197/175. they were good for 11.70's time slips.
