Yates heads on stroker
Anybody ever run any yates c3 heads? Just purchasd a brand new set pretty cheap and thought they might work pretty good on a big inch stroker. Ford racing catalog says the intake runner volume are 210 cc's and the exhaust are 112 cc's. These port volumes look pretty compatable to other smallblock aftermarket heads such the bigger size AFR, the Trick flow(Rs) etc.. As cast they look pretty good. Might need a little bit of evening up porting wise. Also have edelbrock victor for 9.2 deck block. Anybody ever run these unported on a 358?

Is the Edelbrock going to work with the c3? Is this the RAISED PORT?

C3 what? There are more different variations than you can shake a stick at. Brand new? Are they unported? They aren't that nice if the porting hasn't beed done. They'll work...but not a whole lot better than a set of Victor Jrs. Guy I know...has same engine as mine except his pistons are lighter and he uses a set of unported C3's....and actually has a much higher compression ratio than I do...and still runs 7 mph slower in the 1/8 mile and 3 tenths slower ET. Pissed him off that he spent close to $2 grand and they weren't much better than the RPM's that they replaced.
Have Keith Craft port em and hang on! They're capable of close to 400 CFM and they can support approx. 850 HP naturally aspirated. I've also seen a set of KC ported C3s make 1,965 HP on a 402" turbo SBF. Mean engine...but sorry chassis that it's in. What good is HP if you can't put it to the ground??
I bought a set that had been ported by Ernie Elliott (used nascar takeoffs from the 6 car) at an auction a few years ago for $1090. Never used them. Sold them to a guy that wanted them pretty bad....and he gave me $1400 for them before I got to show them off to my buddies. They flowed 385/257 at .750 lift and had 47cc chambers. The rest I don't remember (port cc, etc). It was all included with the heads though.
Great heads, just not that impressive if they're "as-cast".

Thanks for the info mavman, talking to a guy in ohio about porting, has done and has cnc porting programs for c3 s. He is pretty reasonable as far as professional porting goes and I've seen some of the cars that run with his port programs, (they are really fast). Porting guy has a bunch of people running his port programs in mustang drag racing. Purchased heads for $350 dollars so haven 't got hurt to much yet. Even if they dont run better the victor jr.s. . To answer 306's question, the edlebrock manifold I have purchased for the heads is a second hand unused victor model 2991 351 Y and ports match up good. I will have to do some minor port matching if I dont get the heads ported. Also to mavman, what size engine are you using the victor jr. heads on. Thanks.

THEY MUST BE RAISED PORT! IF NOT THE PORT ON THE INTAKE WILL HAVE APP. .250 INTERFERENCWITH THE HEAD AT THE TOP AND BOTTOM.
I KNOW BECAUSE I HAVE THE A3 AND THE 2991 WHICH IS PORTED THOUGH!

Hi mavman, I have another question about the guy you know with the c3 heads. The heads that I bought are the c3h , unported with 40cc chambers. Was this the head he was running, or was this close? Was he running a cam for the windsor heads or did he install a custom spec cam for the yates heads design? Thanks for your input, I dont really know anybody thats running these heads and the more I can learn about them the better my car will run, hopefully. Thanks again.

OK, IF you have the c3H heads the 351Y Edelbrock will work because the H is for raised port!
