milling 460 heads

I have a set of 460 head with 96.2 CC chambers. My question is how many ccs of chamber volume are lost for every .001" of an inch that is milled off. I've been searching the web without any luck for this info. Can anyone help.

Thanks,

Nina

I use .007 thousanths for each cc. It's like 6.5 technically.

Could .035 be safely removed from these 96.2 cc heads? I know the intake will have to be milled as well. Thanks

Are they adjustable rockers or non-adj.? If they are non adj, you need to watch lifter preload when milling the heads. It will change. .035 is no problem otherwise, and I would mill the same amount off the intake face instead of the intake if you can.

I'm using cran roller rockers and switching to studs. I'm also just poslish and porting the exhaust side...no need to do the intake side. Thanks again

The intake port is where the engine makes it's power. The guide boss can be slimmed, the S/T can be biased towards the center of the cyl., and the valve job if done correctly can net 15cfm over a std. 3 angle jobber. Just FYI!!

Thanks for the heads up....no pun intended. Buy at I'm using a stock cast iron manifold and stock Q-jet carb intake in not a big issue, it's getting the exhaust out. 429s have always had issues with getting the exhasut out. Althought I'm building the insides very strong I what the outside to look tame. From the outside it will look 100% stock. Thanks.
