lunati .500 lift cam and heads

Hi, I have a stock 302 91, w/70,000 miles on it stock, I have a lunati .500 lift cam I want to install, what type heads, Yes on a budget, should I get to get the most power out of this cam, not interested in the h.p. # game, just want good old seat of the pants power, I would be able to up-grade injectors/intake, if needed later, will be fuel injected, there are too many heads out there for me to be guessing what would work, or not, maybe some of you guys could help a fellow out THanxs

Re: lunati .500 lift cam and heads

List the specs of the cam, and what type (hyd, hyd roller, etc...)
Looks like either some rhs cast iron heads or maybe some TF twisted wedge heads.

With that cam I would go with the TF heads. Or AFR 185's.

Re: lunati .500 lift cam and heads

hi, heard a lot about the AFR 185, and 165, I have a stock eng,, is this cam and 185's a lil too much for the stock bottom end,,,, if not that sounds pretty good to me, those 185's are real expensive, ,,, any idea of h.p. with the stock (19) inj.,,,, or should I go ahead and up-grade to 24lb, and m.air meter? A guy on ebay had 1970 doosumthing 351 w heads w/chevy 196/160 valves and exh. ported (exh. HUMP),,,, all rebuilt, shipped for about 650, said he runs a mach. shop, they looked real good to me, but I dont know for sure, so i didnt get them, thanxs for the info

Re: lunati .500 lift cam and heads

Ford GT-40X Aluminums, Edelbrock RPM's, AFR 165's, Brodix 5.0 ST are all good choices

Re: lunati .500 lift cam and heads

Spend the Extra $350 on a good set of aftermarket Aluminum ones, they are light years ahead of the old factory castings.

You can get Edelbrocks and GT-40x heads new in the box for about $1000.
