D0VE-A 2.25/1.76 stainless, need porting info

Hi every body, I'm a newby, so I'm keeping the generic q's down, I've read a lot of good info here, and on 460ford, I found a set of D0VE-a heads with 2.25/1.76 stainless valves, double springs, good to .625 lift, new hardened retainers and keepers, positive valve seals,7/16 screw in studs and guide plates, and have been milled .010 , they are ready to go , but have not been ported at all, for about 650 including shipping,, is there some where I've heard you can learn to port your own heads, even buy a slice of head to see how its done ? or mayby somebody can port them ? they look real nice, but with the heads milled .010 what will that do to the CC volume, and the compression ratio for the engine,, will be 460 bored 60 over 473 cube, stock, polished crank, fully preped truck rods, brand new arp football bolts,, wanting about 525 horse power, and a little more torque, if these heads were ported properly would they get me there with the correct cam piston combo,, thanxs

The 460 and 429 heads for the early 70's do not, in my opinion, need to be ported. The ports are as large as they need to be unless you are taking your engine over 7000 RPM.
If you are going to bore the engine to .060" over stock I would recommend that you have the block X-rayed to make sure that you have the metal to do this. Thin clinder walls heat faster and hotter than those with thicker walls. These hot spots cause warpage of the bores and can destroy all your hard work.
.010" off the head is not likely to change your compression signifigantly.

Fully ported and in a proper engine combo, D0VE heads have been known to support over 700hp on just carbs and gas.

For all the work and components put into those heads, the deal you are looking at sounds fair to me. There is a LOT to be gained by porting the factory iron. They biggest problem with the iron heads is the poor flowing exhaust port. On an engine size as your intending, the exhaust flow begins to back up at about 4500 rpm, costing power. The engine will run strong, but can run much stronger with ported exhaust. Ideally, it would be best to work the intake as well while you're in there...mostly an intake bowl blend, then an exhaust bowl blend, short turn radius reshaping and Thermactor bump removal. 525hp will be much easier to accomplish with the ported heads and also provde room to grow.

Given your target hp and stock 460 strokie and rods, I think .060" overbore is no problem whatsoever. We build 473's all the time and run them at 5000-6000 sustained, without issue.

I don't publicize my porting technique, but for a mere $25 you can gain access to lots of great information on this topic and do it right rather than make beginner mistakes. Go to: Re-In-"Car"-nation High Performance and Automotive Repair/index
