Home ported D0OE 351W head flow numbers

I picked up my heads today and got the results of the flow tests. I spent waaaay too many hours porting these suckers, but it was a learning experience and generally therapeutic. The valves are 1.90"/1.60".

Here's what a moron with a grinder can accomplish, tested @ 28" H2O:

Intake:
Lift - Stock/Ported
.10 - 58.7 / 63
.20 - 105.6 / 116
.30 - 152 / 169
.40 - 171 / 199
.50 - 181 / 211
.60 - 189 / 211

Exhaust
.10 - 51.8 / 51
.20 - 90.4 / 97
.30 - 106.8 / 122
.40 - 112.9 / 134
.50 - 114.8 / 143
.60 - 115.4 / 146

FWIW, not too bad for an amateur and better than what I had.

Here's a few pics after and a before. There's a lot of metal in that freakin' hump. I smoothed out the chambers quite a bit as well. Tons of fun!

Somewhere between 20-30 hours I'd wager. It was on-again/off-again so I can't say for sure. Between them and other projects it dragged out over the course of a month.

The first 50% of the first head I ported was slow as heck - then I got a set of carbide burrs at Sears. The burrs knock down the big stuff so much faster (and more accurately) than a stone or cartridge roll.

I almost bought a set of used World Jr heads for $400. With the valves and all I've got about that much in these. And I did it myself. They'll be great in my old Bronco.

Re: Home ported D0OE 351W head flow numbers

I had this post on here for a few years. Some of links to the pics don't work anymore because I deleted the files some time ago to make room for others. There is a pic of the exhaust ports here though. My Intakes and Exhausts measured 160cc and 60cc, respectively when I was done. I never had the heads flowed...wish I did, inquiring minds want to know. They sure do work well on my 331 though. I used a few carbide bits and an air driven die grinder and got 'em done in about 11 hours. Later on when I rebuilt the engine, I put another 3-4 hours into them to fix irregularities and do some valve unshrouding.

Re: Home ported D0OE 351W head flow numbers

Remember this, If you dont mill the crap out of them, the gain you picked up from the porting will be almost meaningless. Those chambers are very big now, so your compression went way down. I have seen this happen many times where someone puts 351 heads on a smaller motor and the performance stays just about the same. Dont forget that compression is VERY important;
