Some pics of your work
How about some pics of everybody's recent porting misadventures- good or bad. I'd just like to see if anybody out there is doing anything first. And then see what we can all gain from what's being done. One day I feel like I'm on the edge of max flow with the heads I'm working on- the next, I've totally ruined them.
So let's see your heads (or intakes ..ect..) and a short scrip about how you feel about the outcome if you want.
And everybody else.... remember what MAMA said .... "if you can't say anything nice- don't say anything at all!"

Re: Some pics of your work
i agree with some pictures. id like to see everyones pictures and maybe their suggestions on dos and donts with the type of heads they are porting. I myself will probably try and do a little porting on my professional products intake for my 5.0.

Re: Some pics of your work
Here is a post I made several years ago and then updated it in 2006. I just fixed the link to all the pics so they are all back in the post now.
Basically a 420+ HP 331 that I wind out to 7K (still making about 390 flywheel HP up there) with fully ported '70 351w heads.

Re: Some pics of your work
Thanks blkfrd- I had actually seen those before and you are the reason my exhaust port valve humps are ground down to the floor. I recently read a post somewhere where a guy said that the humps helped keep the valves cooler and that removing guaranteed burnt valves in short order. Also got the old- your valve seats will wear out... blah, blah..
So how have these heads worked out for you since it's been a while now? Any of the above mentioned problems?

Negative...the car runs like a clock. I was just thinking how easy and smooth car runs and drives and it could be a daily driver if it came to that
Forgot to mention that if this guy thought the thermactor hump cooled the valves, then what about '65 289 heads that did not have thermactor humps?

Not the thermactor hump, the valve stem support.

Oh...never mind.
Yea...I suppose that may have some merit on the exhaust valve. A good seat that transfers heat would seem to be more critical than the hump around the stem. Most ported heads don't leave much of the hump remaining and I don't hear about rashes of this problem. I can tell you that there is not much of the hump left in my heads. The valve guide is exposed in the port about 3/8" and this may help to transfer heat.

Re: Some pics of your work
I didn't realize there was that much left in the photos. Maybe it wasn't your heads after all. But I did see these heads a couple of years ago on that thread. Somewhere I saw some heads with the statement that the exhaust ports didn't really need the valve stem hump- so mine are flush with the floor.
It doesn't really matter though, because these are my third set too and I'm thinking I may be getting some Windsor Sr.s and porting them instead, as well as doing some combustion chamber work.
If that happens- the heads I'm working on will go into storage and probably wind up as trotline weights. I want to do the factory thing too, but I have more cubes to satisfy. (Like 68 more).
If I get off my butt and build a flowbench-I can at least flow the trotline weights and see what I did. If something happens I could still wind up using them too.

Re: Some pics of your work
Hey guys, Here are some photos of a set of E7's I just finished for a buddy’s 306. I ported them following the guidelines given in the "port your stock heads" article. My thoughts on grinding down the valve guide boss are FWIW... If you install the thick wall phosphor/bronze guides with the tails hanging down approx. .25", heat is not only transferred more quickly, but the valve is still riding in as much guide area as it did from the factory! The heads are not on the engine yet so I can't tell you how they perform, yet...

Re: Some pics of your work
These are GT40X heads that have had what amounts to a stage 2.5 port job. (attempting to attach pics)
