Re: Summit Carb Review and Road Test

Nope. I work for a private jet company.

Oh, and I might have stayed in a Holiday Inn Express last night.

Re: Summit Carb Review and Road Test

Are there any plans to test the new 750 DP from Summit? I'm in the market right now and was ready to buy a Proform 750 Race/Street carb but if the Summit is a good carb and is about $140 less I might go that route.

Re: Summit Carb Review and Road Test

I hadn't planned on it. That's a bit too much carb for my 306. If they made a 600-650 DP, it would be a better test on my car.

Re: Summit Carb Review and Road Test

nice review, thanks for taking the time to do it. i'm a big autolite 4100 fan myself and my main question about this new Summit carb is if the booster clusters will interchange with the old 4100 carb. i just won one of the ultra-rare 1.19 venturi 4100's on ebay and am considering using a set of the Summit carb boosters in it to get a little more tunability out of it, if they'll work.

by any chance do you have any measurements from the boosters? maybe i could figure out whether these booster will work in the 4100 that way. i keep hearing they will work but i've also heard they won't work. BTW, for anyone interested you can buy the boosters seperately but they aren't advertised in the catalog, you have to call to get them.

That's cool. I didn't know they were sold separately. I should have the carb off to swap power valves this week. I'll measure a booster for ya.

Re: Summit Carb Review and Road Test

bnickel, I measured the booster on the Summit carb. The emulsion tubes measured 1.12" center-to-center. The booster venturi centers were about 1.8" apart. Please let us know if that will work on an Autolite 4100.

ok, here's the scoop. the autolite 4100 boosters have the emulsion tubes centers at right 1.12 and the booster venturi centers were just a little over 1.8" center to center. so it looks like they should damn near perfectly!!!!!!!

PS, sorry it took me so long to reply to the thread, we've been trying to buy a house and things have been pretty hectic around here the last couple of months, finally put in an offer on one last night so i've just been sitting around the house waiting to hear if it has been accepted and had a few minutes to finally go pull a carb apart and measure the booster.

thanks for all the help!!!!!!

Re: Summit Carb Review and Road Test

The sUMMIT carbs are the now long discontinued Holley 4010 or 4011 carbs. They were not made for performance when Holley first made them and arent any better now. The best street carbs are the Street Avengers and for performance the old DPs 4776 or 4777 or 4778 for most Ford same blocks. LC

Re: Summit Carb Review and Road Test

bnickel,
Thanks for the feedback...I'd wager you're right about them interchanging.

oldschool,
I find it to be an excellent performing carb...and I've run Holleys, Edelbrocks and (sigh) BG carbs on this same combo. This is the carb I'm keeping on the car. Not to say the SA isn't a good carb. The Auotlite 4100, Holley 4010, and now Summit carbs are just a different design from the standard Holleys most people are used to.

I'm curious where you came to the conclusion that these carbs "aren't any better now."
