Yep, there is no difference in height, and IMHO not enough difference in performance to worry about. If some one gives you one go for it, otherwise don't waste your money. The HO throttlebody is a good upgrade though(60mm vs 50mm). Did you see my post to your question over in the other tech forum?
I have a Cobra intake on mine.

yes, I did check out coolcats, but just asn't sure if the hood height is the same between the cougar/tbird.

Would a gt40/other intake fit?

Did you convert to mass air?

Oops, I guess the cobra is the gt40.
And I looked again at the pic and saw the mass air.............
I bought the conversion harness recomended by coolcats sight. hopefully I can find a 5.0 mass air computer for an auto cheap.

What kind of exhaust are you running? Any other mods?

Actually the Cobra and GT40 are different, they use the same lower But the Cobra is a cast
(po' boy $400 vs $650) version of the GT40 tube upper. The Explorer 5.0 intake can be used and is very simliar to the Cobra. Not drilled for a air temp sensor(no prob) and the egr system is different. They are usually easy to get fairly cheap at a salvage yard or ebay.

Mass air does not add any horsepower by itself, it is only necessary if you change the cam. Long duration cams don't have enough vacuum for the MAP sensor, so the stock speed densety system goes nuts. The firing order is different for the std 5.0( 15426378 ) vs the HO( 13726548 ) due to the cam. So it can't be used unless you do change to a HO/351 cam.

If you are on a budget the stock Mustang HO cam, 19lb injectors, shorty headers, etc. can be used with a '87 -'88 Mustang speed densety computer for approx 50-60hp increase(more if you change to the Mustang heads), no wiring changes are necessary.

I have Trick Flow heads and cam, 24lb injectors, 1 5/8" shorty headers and a full 2 1/2" exaust system. Tranny is a AOD from '90 3.8 Super Coupe with 2600 converter and Trans-Go shift kit. Rear is the stock 8.8 TC with 3.73 gears.(5.0 Birds have the 7.5 with 2.73 or 3.08 gears)

Except for some chassis parts, the basic rule of thumb is.... If it fits the Stang it usually works with little or no problem on a '83-'88 Bird or Cougar.
