Who here has broken a rearend or an axle

If so how much HP and TQ did you have when you broke. I want to get an idea at what point I need to start thinking about upgrading mine. Thanks

You'd be suprised how much it can actually take. Most guys here run no transbrakes & have been deep in th 9's. The last one was in a full-size all-steel Chevy truck with a 482 & nitrous, it lasted about 30 passes on a "N" case. Makes a mess when it does brake!

just get an auburn or eaton 31 spline diff, 31 spline moser axles, and some taller gears and not worry about breaking stuff until u need a real roll cage (under 9.99), i have broken many in my truck, upgrade now, it sucks later when the car is down waiting for endless parts

the 28 spline units actually do take a lot of abuse. I've seen lots of guys running 10's all day long with no problems, it all depends how you launch it. If you have busted it up, it might be just as easy to get 31 spline units. You naturally will need to change the diff. I know a few guys running 9's using the explorer traction loc unit, and they love it! It's obviously streetable (its a traction loc), and you can get the unit from any of your local ford dealers.....cheap.

The Explorer Rearend might be the way to go with some harden 28 splines. I launch around 4000-4300 I let the clutch out fast and stomp the gas as the clutch is coming out. With doing that I can cut 1.75-1.70s all day. I would like to get into the 1.60s and start launching in the 5k range.

Explorer 8.8's use 31 spline axles. If you got a 28 spline it's out of a Ranger/'90 B2. (the Ranger FX4 L2 uses 31 spline also)

Just FYI.

I've never broken any 9" parts, (I"m running out in the kitchen right now to knock on the wood table),, but I"ve broken EVERY conceiveable part in a gm 12 bolt that's possible to break.
Didn't break **** until I started to 'juice it'.
No trans brakes, no HUGE slicks, just heavy car, 4.11's and lots of spray.
I've got every 'out to lunch' break with that car on tape. Watch it every now and then for laughs.......... (expensive humor)
