T5 Trans Capabilities

I have a 1990 Mustang with an AOD. I am considering converting it to a T5. My understanding is that a T5 is rated to handle up t0 300ftlbs of torque. This is a project car and I plan to rebuild the engine with an upgraded top end and maybe one day a supercharger and hope to exceed 300ft lbs. Does anyone know just how much torque a T5 can stand?

The new t-5,s that are sold by summit are rated @335 ft lbs of torque. Now I have the t5 from summit in my 408 equipped mustang that makes 390 hp and 440 ftlbs of torque at the pavement. I didnt expect it to last but it has been almost a year, I dont speed shift it and never ran any drag slicks but it has seen many open track events @ willow springs. So my personal experence has been great. Good luck!!! Chris

I ran a T-5 with slicks(3 years) and pulled 1.56 60'...ran 7.47 in the 1/8 mile(This car is a daily driver) ...That tranny took a beating and all I did was break a shift fork (A well known weak link)...now I run a prepped AOD I ran a 7.31...so ...Maybe...you ....should ...keep...the...AOD....found it used with a Stallion converter....best thing I ever did..get a better valve body and premium rebuild/and a good converter

It's been a long time since I had anything other than an automatic and I Just think it would be fun to make this one a stick.

They can be broken, but if you take care of it it will take care of you. I drag race my 65 all year using a T-5, I dont use slicks and I dont speed shift.
