87 2.3 loss of power

87 mustangh 2.3. starts and idles ok but when you floor it there's a second hesitation 1 small backfire out exhaust and only get about 4000 rpm out of it. after idling for a while it will start to miss. if gas is goosed will die and not restart for an hour.

You're going to have to do some at home diagnosis on this.
Do you have access to a fuel pressure gauge? If so, hook it up to the schrader valve and monitor fuel pressure.
If you have access to a spark tester, monitor spark.
You gotta find out what's 'going away'. ANd then go from there.
Could be fuel, (lean out), or loss of spark, or messing up secondary ignition. Ya gotta start somewhere.

yeah i know. it's got a new fuel pump,the spark looks good but who knows.
i'm thinking electrical because it's starts going away after it's heated up. maybe tfi module.had a code reader but son in law decided i didn't need the code book and took it away like most of my tools.

you can always pull the codes using either the CE light or a test light jumpering the sti and sto pins of your eec test hook up.
