EFI 460 has delayed reaction to closed throttle

I have a problem with my newly acquired 93 F350 w/EFI 460 and 5 sp. When I let off the gas to shift gears the engine does not always respond immediately to the closing of the throttle. It may maintain its current rpm for a second or two and then idle down. The throttle linkage is not sticking. Any ideas? This is annoying.

Sounds like factory settings. Somone decided that rapid throttle closing was bad for emissions, so most all of ford EFI stuff uses the IAC motor to more gently bring the RPMS down. My Ranger, friends Focus, and buddies Mustang all do that.

So what both of you are saying is that I will have to live with it?

If this is indeed a built-in function, I wonder if disconnecting the clutch interlock would have any effect? I do not recall my 89 F150 w/EFI I6 doing this, but it had the interlock defeated. Just tossing around some ideas.

Clean the throttle body first.
If that does not solve your problem look for a vacuum leak.
if all else fails replace the IAC.
It should idle down not hold to long.
