Aerostar Charging Problems

My co-workers van is not holding a charge.. Even after her husband 'shotgunned' a starter, alternater and battery at it.. So she wants me to take a look at it, but it is snowing and I won't have a chance til sunday.. And while on her 1/2 mile drive to work, all her lights went out and now it won't start.. Has anyone had this kinda problem? Any tips would be appreciated.. Thanks

Aerostar Charging Problems

Im not familiar with aerostars, but if it has an external voltage regulator, thats likely the culprit. If not there is likely a bad connector or a borken wire in the circuit.

Dont rule out bad "new" parts, It isnt often, but it happens.

It's not that it won't "hold" a charge, it's not charging at all. It seems like a loose/broken connection on one of the ALT leads.

BTW the ALT should be an IAR(internal reg).

Have to agree with 1bad88 Fords always burn wiring first 12 inches or so. If not there keep lookin. Some have fuseable links but I do not rememeber on the aerostars. Oh and the obvious, some have a main charging fuse so check the fuse box(es)
